26/9/05

Each year Variety - The Children’s Charity , hold a “Bash” ( BASH. Colloq. A great party. A fun and rewarding fundraising event involving cars and crew, both of which are slightly wacky) to raise funds to helping sick, disabled and disadvantaged children. The Bash is a motoring fundraising event, synonomous with Variety around the world – and it started in Australia .
The 2005 RACV Insurance Variety Vic Bash is their biggest fundraiser of the year which started on August 18 in Melbourne with 120 cars heading to Caloundra on Queensland ’s Sunshine Coast .
Heidelberg Rotary member, Wayne Dunstan(slightly wacky car driving fundraiser) has entered a number of times and this year started at Geelong, travelling to Warrnambool, Naracoorte, Adelaide, Mildura, Cobar, Moree, Roma, and Dalby on his way to Caloundra.
This year Victoria raised $1.4 million for Victoria ’s special needs kids – bringing the total Australia wide to more than $6.5 million raised over 15 years.
Wayne ’s new car, Ford Fairlane No. 54, went very well for it's first trip with only a few minor problems. His car managed to come second in the best presented car and won the trophy for the highest individual fundraiser without corporate sponsorship which amounted to $15,000.00 plus.
At the end of the Bash, Wayne and Doreen drove to Noosa for a break and then up to Hervey Bay to catch the whales. They then drove to Surfers Paradise for a short stay and then back to cold old Melbourne .
The next trip for car No. 54 is to do the Tasmania Bash on October 22nd for one week with Doreen as Wayne ’s navigator. This will be interesting!
We will be awaiting the stories of the outcome of this Bash from Wayne .
