HAAG is a state-wide organisation that exists to work toward the alleviation of housing related poverty for older Australians and to provide housing support services to disadvantaged older people.
Our aim is to provide effective tenancy, information and support services to older tenants, and to raise awareness of housing issues. HAAG provides a state forum for aged people to raise and act upon housing issues affecting them, and fostering opportunities for mutual housing support and information sharing among group members.
Approximately 85,000 older people are living in rental accommodation in Victoria. Currently, there are 2500 older Victorians requesting information on housing, including hostel and nursing service accommodation.
Situated at Ross house for the past five years, HAAG was established 14 years ago. HAAG offers three main services: tenancy advice, housing options and outreach Housing and Care Support service. We produce brochures and a quarterly newsletter Housing for the Aged Action Group Inc. Newsletter, and provide a range of community education activities. We share the Older Persons Action Centre (OPAC) information caravan, which can be seen in Bourke Street during Senior Citizens Week and on United Nations Day. We provide speakers, hold forums on housing issues, and lobby Government Ministers and Departments.
