"Mr Samuel Rowbottom
The death occurred, on Friday evening at the Port Fairy Hospital, of Mr Samuel Rowbottom, retired farmer, at the very great age of 96 years. Deceased, who was a native of Watford, England, came to Australia when he was 25 years of age, and had lived in Victoria for 71 years. He was twice married, and of the first family of 5, Charles, Henry & Jas. are living. There were two children of the second marriage, David being the surviving one. The old gentleman won the esteem & respect of everyone who made his acquaintance, his relations with all being of the friendliest & most honourable kind. For the past two years, he had been a paying patient at the local hospital. The remains were interred in the Port Fairy cemetery on Sunday afternoon, the cortege leaving the residence of one of his sons (James), in Cox-street. Canon Jessop read the burial service, the mortuary arrangements being carried out by Messrs Guyett & Sons."
