Sam Roberts was a farmer near Yambuk - an area near Port Fairy. He was farm manager on Clonlara Farm which was part of Aringa Station, a large sheep and cattle run which has since been broken up into smaller properties. Sam and Gertrude moved off the farm into Port Fairy about 1914 and Sam ran a cartage business until he retired. They lived at 80 Princes Highway, Port Fairy until their death and are both buried in the Port Fairy Cemetery.
