Overeaters Anonymous Rowville

The season for overeating is upon us. With so much emphasis on food as the holidays arrive, people who suffer from compulsive overeating find themselves faced with temptations everywhere. Where can they get the support they need to discover other ways to celebrate the holidays—ways that will leave them feeling good about themselves instead of guilty or full of regret? Where can they find a solution to the devastating cycle of bingeing and starving? Where can they discover how to stop the never-ending roller coaster ride of yo-yo dieting?

Overeaters Anonymous Rowville meets weekly at Rowville Uniting Church. However, it is not affiliated with any particular religious movement or ideology, In OA, we come together simply as compulsive overeaters. The Melway ref is 82 A1, the address of the Church is Cnr Fulham St and Bridgewater Way...contact numbers Nikki (03) 9874 5527, Josephine (03) 9878 2826, Lorna (03) 9560 2456, Christina (03) 5986 2768.

Membership is free. OA is self-supporting through its own contributions so there are no fees. There are also no “weigh-ins” - we are not a diet and calories club, we are a fellowship of individuals who are each encouraged to identify our own personal nutritional and health needs. This particular meeting at Rowville is a “Big Book” study group - that is, we read and study the “Alcoholics Anonymous” text, which our own

Fellowship is patterned after. We also have speakers from our own and other meeting groups who come and share their personal stories.

Information about Overeaters Anonymous and the location of OA meetings across Melbourne can be obtained from the OA Melbourne Office (03) 9521 3696, or, visit the OA website www.oa.org

Knox Home Garden Club

It’s time to do a few simple maintenance jobs in preparation for the warmer months ahead. Make sure that the mower blades are replaced regularly and raised to leave the lawns longer as this helps keep them greener and drought tolerant. If you live in a high fire risk area, it’s time to clear gutters, rake leaf litter, cut the grass and generally tidy up! Ferns will love regular watering from above, both the fronds and down into the crown of tree ferns. Mulch the garden liberally after watering thoroughly. The best mulches are medium/course bark, pea straw or lucerne. Use compost and coir as a soil conditioner, and mulch over it.

Don’t forget to slip, slop, slap before going out into the garden. Ten minutes is enough to get sun burnt.

Why not plant heat-loving seedlings like zinnia, petunia, celosia, African marigolds and daisies, cosmos and nasturtium - or veggie varieties such as Asian greens, lettuce, dwarf and climbing beans, potato tubers, rhubarb crowns, sweet corn, silver beet, pumpkin, cucumber, cabbage and cauliflower.

If you are wondering about how to get these jobs attended to, then you might try getting out of bed half an hour earlier each day, especially as early in the morning is a good time to water the roses. Alternatively, late in the day for watering everything else. Then all there is to do, after the jobs in the garden are done, is to have a wonderful and a safe Christmas as you enjoy the bountiful fruits of your labour!
