"THE RESURRECTION"

First Movement.

The composer, standing in the fierce wind at the edge of a precipice, reflects on the meaning of life and death, remembering his recently deceased friend. A large pillar lies broken and fallen, a giant footstep left in the sand is soon to be washed away by the sea. A glimmer of hope is shown by the ship heading for the shore and the white blossoms bursting forth on the apparently dead, gnarled tree. The torturous movement of lines in the clouds and the rocks reflect the turmoil of emotions experienced by the mourner.

Second Movement.

A happy interlude in the life of the deceased is remembered. The swirling dance of the flowers depicts the music of the Minuet recurring in different forms in this movement.

Third Movement.

The music suggests dancers prancing up to the top of a mountain, then figures falling from a great height. The terrors of life lurk in the clouds, the world becomes a place of horror for the tortured soul contemplating the futility of life.

Fourth Movement.

A short movement in which a childlike voice sings: "O red rose! Mankind lies in greatest need! Mankind lies in greatest pain! Much rather would I be in Heaven! Then I came upon a broad path; Then an angel came and wanted to dismiss me. Ah no! I would not be dismissed! I am from God and would go back to God! Dear God will give me a light, Will light me to blissful everlasting life!"

Fifth Movement.

Without a break, we hear the sounds of the great event of the Final Judgement, the reaping of the ready harvest, the rising of the dead, the dark sky indicating the anxiety of all.The sound of hope is represented by the blue bird hovering above all. As the long procession of people is going up to the mountain of God, a large rainbow is stretched across the sky, indicating that all creation is wrapped in the overwhelming LOVE of God.
