Comment: I can empathise with Heather - not that I put up with anywhere near as much as she was forced to. I remember when she was first arrested. Did I hear about how brutal she was - no. I heard that she was accused of murdering that terrible husband of hers. I heard how she'd been able to resume something of a life, and how much better off she was without him. I don't have any children, but it was bad enough trying to protect a confused puppy from a beating. I can't imagine what she went through - I imagine the account she has given doesn't even cover half of it. I wish you all the luck in the world chick - and know that at the end of the day - or your unjustified prison term - that you have and will have much support to resume life on the outside.

Comment: I'm a year 11 student currently studying legal studies. While focusing on family law, our teacher informed us about your case and encouraged us to visit your website. Many people in the class took it upon themselves to read your story and all were shocked with what you went through. We have spent many lessons discussing your case yet we still can't make sense of the decision. I wanted to write to you and let you know how your story affected us and to also wish you luck for the future. Your story has inspired me, like many other women, to stand up for women's rights and make a difference.

Comment: I am currently writing a paper on the law reform on provocation in a defence to homicide. The more I learn about this topic the more horrible the truth seems. I am really saddened to hear about Heather and I truly hope this won't happen again... I support the law reform and wish it not too far away. I found this terrible web site http://www.ourcivilisation.com/decline/loss/murder.htm I understand that law reform is far away when I read the writings of this man.... who in the face of a poor battered aboriginal woman, killed her husband for survival and he claims that she was an evil murderess

Comment: I would just like to say that I think it is extremely sad and disturbing what happened to Heather Osland. I think it is appalling that a woman can be sentenced to imprisonment with a story like that. I believe that there must be many many more woman in the same position as Heather was and just because Heather was brave enough to do something about it she has been punished. That sets a bad example for others in her position. They will be too scared to act upon their situation. I think that we should keep fighting against the courts until justice is served.

I just wanna say that this Frank guy is a bastard and deserved everything he got. But I just cannot beleive you have such a long sentence for using self-defence pretty much. I just wish you good luck and hope that you get released pretty soon. You dont deserve this. The legal system sux sometimes!!! Especially in your case...You had no choice than to do what you had to do. |

Comment: Chamberlain, Catt, Osland. Why must the justice system demonise women in this country? Stay strong: the 1st was cleared; the 2nd soon will be; and you will have your day. The appeals courts' and their narrow focus is no place to remedy injustice. An Inquiry should be established ASAP. Have faith, Heather.

Comment: I am now where you have been. I too have looked into his eyes and wanted to murder the bastard for the things he does to me and my daughter. There never is any real protection from these men, you only need to look at the black shirts to see that family violence is thriving today and we are no closer to getting support and protection in the areas of health, housing, child care and legislation reform. I still get asked "why don't you get a restraining order?" as though that will solve all my problems. I work in the industry and I live with it at home. Every day is a step towards recovery and true freedom. I hope for you and myself and all women and children who experience family violence in its many forms that we reach it. Love to you and all your supporters.
