There is a small, but active, friends group, formed in 1999, who are working hard to maintain and develop the site. They have been successful in attracting funding to improve paths, remove safety hazards, clear weedy vegetation and renovate the rotunda. They have re-planted a temperate rainforest at the site of the fernery; planted an Abelia hedge to keep cars away from the heritage areas; planted shrubs along paths; and erected interpretative signs. They have also worked with LandMate workers from Langi Kal Kal prison, Shire employees, contractors and students from the School of Forestry to construct steps and hand rails, and excavate a ditch to divert run-off from the tennis courts away from the fernery (and hence reduce erosion). A priority for the future is to obtain the substantial funds to have the lake cleaned out.

Meetings of the group take place at 7 pm on the first Thursday of the month at the Hepworth Shire Building (next to the Library) in Creswick. Contact can be made through the Secretary, Mrs Val Lawrence, 10 South Street, Creswick, Victoria 3363; telephone 03 5345 1310.

They have their own web site at http://www.goldlinksweb.com/parklake/index.htm
