Formed in 1921, as the 1st Rotary Club in Australia, the
Rotary Club of Melbourne Inc. has a proud history of connection with and support
for the corporate community. The Club meets every week and has a diverse membership
of over 250 business and professional women and men working together to serve
the community.
The Club is always alert to connect those who have the means
to assist with those who have the drive and commitment.
With approximately
30,000 clubs worldwide, Rotary International has extensive networks to support
community projects locally, as well as internationally.
Partnerships between
the corporate business community and the Rotary Club of Melbourne Inc. have brought
significant benefits to the community.
Corporates have found worthwhile
benefit for their organisation and their senior staff in supporting endeavour
where it is needed in the community.
Opportunities to be part of such positive
community effort are highly valued by participants. Our President and our Secretary

Recent
Programs
In partnership with the Women's & Children's Health Network,
the Rotary Club of Melbourne Inc. has established a formal structure for 'Communities
that Care', to connect young people to their communities. Research has shown that
relationships and connectedness are vital for positive life outcomes and to strengthen
social fabric.
Operation Livewire helps young people starting out in business
to develop business plans with one-on-one help from mentors. It is a joint effort
between Shell Australia Ltd, Small Business Victoria and Rotary Clubs throughout
Australia. The Rotary Club of Melbourne Inc. is part of this alliance. Find out

January 2001 Update
Corporate Alliances: Operation Livewire
Operation Livewire for 2000 concluded with a prize presentation in early
December. In Victoria the winners were:-
1st Prize Kerryn Howell & Jane Klose "Theme from JAK"
- Boutique themed decorating service aimed at corporate market
2nd Prize Byron McCormack "Wildcard Clothing"
- Youth Strutware
3rd Prize Danae Eaden "Fanni Barnes"
- Personal sexual hygiene products.
2000 proved to be a good year right across Australia with 420 people
submitting 134 business plans.
In Victoria 90 people commenced the program leading to 31 business plans
being submitted.
Rotary support was excellent.
