Annette’s Anecdotes
What a wonderful busy meeting on Monday with the induction of Elizabeth Durr into Rotary. Liz has been a great campaigner in endeavouring to support the women in East Timor through the Alola Foundation and she is committed to helping people in our community. Liz ‘s mentor for the next 6 months will be Past President Peter Spurling and she is with New Generations Committee headed by Rotarian Tony Plant. Congratulations Liz.
Over the last few meetings our masterful Sergeant Glenn Ludeman has given us a lot of fun with Celebrity Heads; we are nearly at the final of this competition and it will be interesting to see who gets over the line first.
Hugh Austin introduced our guest speakers Joanne Baker and Kelly Stevens from” Righteous Pups Bendigo” and Jai Yates with his assistant dog Hope. It was wonderful to see the bond between them both and see how Hope helps Jai in all his daily activities. Jai was also involved in training Hope and holds an important role in this organization. Jai’s mum Jenny Yates, who all of us know, came along to support Jai and she enjoyed being on the other side of the catering for the evening.
Joanne spoke about the process of training the dogs; Holly a Labrador and sister to Hope is a Therapy dog going into nursing homes to bring smiles and joy to those who have had to leave their pets behind. The dogs work with teenagers from troubled and difficult backgrounds giving a good psychological response to their own actions. The dogs are going to work with children with autism and Kelly is going to the USA to do a course which will implement this. It will be a first in Australia.
Past President Hans Frank presented a cheque for $1,000 to aid the wonderful work this organization is doing to help young people in our community. I must not forget 11-week-old Gundry, a little brown lab, who was continually hugged and cuddled all evening lapping up the attention on his way to learning the tricks of the trade.
Don’t forget to look for sponsors of gifts for our Trivia night on October 28th.
Our Board meeting followed with much discussion. All to be reported back to members at the next Monday’s meeting.
Next Monday is Partner night with football theme, pie night and competitions. Don’t forget the footballs!
I have been asked by the Rotary Club of Bendigo Sandhurst if any member of our club would be interested in hosting a couple from the USA as part of Group Friendship Exchange from Wednesday18th October to the 22nd October. Activities have been organised for the 4 days so that the hosts will only have to provide a couple of meals, breakfasts and a couple of dinners. All other meals are at the expense of the tourists as with organised events. Please email me at the latest Friday evening at Annette.

Have a great week.
