VOCATIONAL AVENUE OF
SERVICE
The pre-eminent
activity in the Vocational service area is the
annual John Reddish Service Excellence Awards. These
awards were initiated to recognise outstanding
service, beyond what might be considered an
expectation, by an enterprise within a local retail
precinct.
Commencing in 2005,
in one locality, the Harp Village, in 2007 the
awards were extended to the 9 villages in the
northern reaches of the City of Boroondara. The
overall winner in this recent award process, was the
Boroondara Milk Bar. This award recognised the
importance of exceptional service which underpins
the attraction of supporting the essentially family
businesses, competing against the might of the major
shopping precincts.
This expanded awards
project was so successful, The City of Boroondara
have invited the Rotary Club of Kew on Yarra to
extend the reach of the awards to the 25 local
retail precincts contained within the city's
boundary.
While essentially a
project within the purview of vocational service,
there is an overlapping connotation of community
service.
During the 2009/10
Rotary year, 2 vocational visits will be made to
enable members and their partners, to learn about
the activities in selected organisations. The
organisations selected were the result of a member
survey to establish preferences. |
