Brown's Blog
(A word from
President Anne Brown)
This week
Tony Boyd, Ed and I travelled up the road to have a
joint meeting with our sister club Woodend. I was a bit
disappointed with the numbers but with so many away it
was unavoidable. We managed to arrive a little late
courtesy of myself directing Ed the wrong way and we
found ourselves on the Tullamarine Freeway and not the
Calder I think that might mean a fine this week.
We were
warmly welcomed by our hosts and I gave a presentation
on our clubs activities since we last met. We definitely
seem to have achieved a lot in that time. Grant Hocking,
who is standing in for Eb who is overseas, then went on
to tell us what Woodend had been up to and like us they
are very active for a small club. One thing Woodend is
doing and we are not is inducting new members. We will
have to have a serious recruitment drive in the New
Year. This is a challenge for all members and not just
the membership committee. Donna Cooper, their
International Director excitedly announced that she had
raised at a special function the week before $21000
toward the $30000 she needed to establish a school for
her Cambodian Kids Foundation. She is already fund
raising at an unbelievable rate for the established
projects for the Foundation. It is people like Donna,
Isabel, Richard and a new Woodend member Peter Hall with
a project in Nepal that drive these overseas projects
for the betterment of these underprivileged countries.
The normal
egg auction was held of course, nearly as well as Kai
did it. We must be a good influence as they raised
nearly double what they would on a normal week.
This week we
are having our AGM and as we have a few away we need as
many members as possibly turn up as we don't
want to reschedule because we lack a quorum. We also
have the market stall on Sunday so I hope you have found
some goods for sale and told John when you are available
to help.
That is all
for this week, a quiet one for Kew on Yarra, and
remember THE FUTURE OF
ROTARY IS IN OUR HANDS.

E.
