In
Rotary, "Club Service" is about the development of
fellowship and the day to day running of the Rotary
Club including arrangements for meetings,
fundraising, social activities and attendance at the
annual Rotary District Conference.
Meetings
can be of several forms. The most
common incorporates a guest speaker who provides
information on a subject of interest to Rotarians
and their guests. Subjects range from Rotary Service
related topics to those of general interest.
In
2009/10 the program for the Rotary Club of Kew on
Yarra will include about 30 invited speakers
including 11 speakers on specific Rotary topics.
About 4 meetings will be held jointly with other
Rotary Clubs such as our "sister club" Woodend, and
another 5 meetings will involve purely social
activities such as the Oaks Eve party associated
with Melbourne's Spring Racing Carnival.
Some of
the guest speakers in 2009/10 will deal with
-
How
the special needs of rural Victoria can be
addressed during the current drought times.
-
Employment issues in Australia
-
Issues affecting young people in Australia
-
Planning for Melbourne's growth
-
The
work of Rotary's International Foundation
-
The
work of the Australian Rotary Health Research
Fund
-
Rotary Programs such as GSE (a study exchange of
young professionals from different parts of the
World),
-
MUNA (The Model
United Nations Assembly for secondary school
students).
Any
person who may not be a member of Rotary, but wishes
to attend a meeting can contact John Brownsea on
0407 236 071, and is certain to be made most
welcome. This is the best way to see what Rotary is
all about and whether you would be interested in
becoming a member.
