Community Service Projects.

We are lucky to have a good relationship with our local Council and we will continue to explore ways to best serve our community.

Our continued involvement with Boroondara Cares sees an ongoing relationship with our local council. The work of John Savage on this ongoing project has been tremendous. Our club provided support in a number of ways throughout the year; providing financial assistance with Cakes and Puddings, providing financial support for women of Moira to attend GDF, attending the Evening under the Stars at Katunga, attending the Trots at Cobram, as well as a number of other items.

Whilst not having a specific environmental project planned at this stage for the year, I hope that a suitable project will become available that we can get involved in. The environment is certainly an issue on many minds at the moment and a worthwhile project is certainly something worthy of our consideration.

We again participated in the Clean-Up Australia Program, arranged by Peter Hoban with excellent support from our members. A bbq was held at the conclusion of the clean-up.

Through the efforts of a number of our members, under the guidance of Roger Fasken, we continue to be involved in Disaster Response with our work with Shelterbox.

Roger and Bob have again put a great effort toward promoting Shelterbox, raising a substantial amount of money for this excellent Rotary Program.

We will continue our work with the disadvantaged members of our community by assisting with the Soiree’s (as Peter calls them).

Despite our offer, we were not taken up on providing any Soiree’s this year, however we did provide support for the disadvantaged at Christmas as well as providing financial support for Camcare leading up to Christmas via our weekly fines. It was a great effort from members to try an increase each week the amount we raised in our fine session, with the result being that we achieved $1,000 in five weeks, money that was well received by Camcare.

I haven’t targeted any topics relating to Health at this point in time; again if a suitable topic arises that we can become involved in then we will.

We had Dr Neville Farmer speak to our club recently on Diagnosing cancer.

As a club, we were able to make a $1,000 donation towards Odyssey House, an organisation that our own Frank O’Sullivan has been providing support to for a number of years.
