During the Presidency of Gerry Fitzgerald (93/94) the Rotary Club of Caulfield held a special meeting of all members on Wednesday October 27th 1993. Amongst the matters discussed was the possibility of changing the meeting to a Breakfast meeting. Over a period of time this was researched and finally on June 7th 1994 the weekly meeting of the Caulfield Club was changed to a breakfast meeting as an experiment. The guest speaker was the journalist Paul Robinson, a Walkley Award winner. It was a resounding success. Discussion continued re a Breakfast Club in the area.

During the Presidency of John Wheller (94/95) on the 17th August 1994 the board of the Rotary Club of Caulfield passed a motion to start a Breakfast Club. It was moved by G Fitzgerald and seconded by R Gray.

On Tuesday 7th March 1995 PDG Edwin Peat and PDG David Wills visited PP Gerry Fitzgerald to investigate the establishment of a Breakfast Club. PP Gerry Fitzgerald was appointed as D G Rosback's Special Representative. Subsequent District Governors Kes Steel and John Reddish renewed this appointment.

On the 20th April 1995 the Rotary Club of Caulfield sought consent of the Rotary Club of Caulfield-Rosstown (now the Rotary Club of Glen Eira) to a sharing of territory for a new Breakfast Club. They replied on 8th May 1995 saying they had no objections to the forming of a new Breakfast Club or sharing their territory with the proposed club. (This was formally done on the 25th March 1997. We had come a long way by then).

Following the visit of the two Past District Governors to PP Gerry Fitzgerald, a Club Assembly of the Caulfield Club was held on Tuesday 2nd May 1995 at which PDG David Wills was present. It was felt that the possibility of Caulfield itself becoming a Breakfast Club still had support but that such a change was not envisaged. A new club was the way to go.

The First Breakfast Meeting.
The first informal Breakfast meeting was held at the Presbytery of PP Gerry Fitzgerald on Tuesday 28th May 1996 at 7:15am for 7:30am. Present were President Jack Campbell and Gerry Fitzgerald (Caulfield) and Vic Foster. The second week the following were present; Ray Lewis, Vic Foster, Jack Campbell, Heather Welsh, Garry Carmody, John and Prisca Cradick and Gerry Fitzgerald. Meetings have been held every week since then.

McDonalds Family Restaurant Elsternwick.
From July 1996 the meetings took place in McDonalds Family Restaurant in Elsternwick. We were honoured by a visit by PDG Kes Steel at a Breakfast meeting on 13 August 1996. His support was greatly appreciated. During this time we also received support from PDG Gordon McKern. On 27th August 1996 we visited the Rotary Club of Brighton Beach. A visit we enjoyed very much. PDG John King offered his support at this meeting. Other clubs we visited were South Yarra and Glen Eira.

On the 8th October 1996 DG John Reddish on his visit to the Rotary Club of Caulfield gave much encouragement to the new Club and took a great interest in its progress.  Under the auspices of the Rotary Club of Caulfield the fledgling group ran a raffle and raised over a $1000 for Youth Support. The raffle took place on December 9th 1996. It was a very successful effort and proved the ability of the new group.

The Year of 1997.
On the 4th March 1997 we changed our meeting venue to the RSL Caulfield. This proved to be a most rewarding gamble. Membership grew more rapidly. However in the course of twelve months we lost 17 prospective members. Some being with us for a short time, others some months. We hope this is the nucleus of the friends of Rotary in Elsternwick.

The Extension committee of the new Breakfast Club is as follows:=
DG's Special Representative PP Gerry Fitzgerald,
President of Rotary Club of Caulfield, Gary Fabian,
President Elect of Rotary Club of Caulfield, Heather Welsh,
PP Robin Gray, PP John Wheller, PP Graham Sicklemore, and PP Jack Campbell.

First Meeting of the Provisional Rotary Club of Elsternwick.
This meeting was held on 18th March 1997. The Fifth meeting held on 15 April 1997 saw President Elect Adrian Jackson welcome DG John Reddish and DG Gordon McKern to the Provisional Club. It was an historic visit. members were delighted by the visit of the DG John and his wife Judy.
DG John inspired all by his address.

The Rotary Club of Elsternwick was chartered on the 28th May 1997. The club had 29 charter members.
