Rotary Club of Dromana

This year we are sponsoring our selected (from 10 applicants) student Bea Heymann to go to Gifu in Japan. Bea has enjoyed attending the preparatory camps and is well prepared for the experience. She was presented with her Blazer at our Christmas Meeting. The photo shows her on that occasion, flanked by her Mum and by Mary Samuhel (Youth Services Director), both of whom are giving much support.

Our Youth Services Committee (Director Mary Samuhel) has this year awarded a Scholarship to a student at Dromana Secondary College, an Art Prize to a pupil at Dromana Primary School (associated with our Art Show) and some Book Prizes at Red Hill Consolidated Primary School. The photo shows Evan McLelland of Dromana Primary school receiving his prize for Best Painting by a Primary Student.

This award of a $250 cheque and a plaque to record each years recepient, was first awarded at the school’s prize night to Brett Evans. The money is held by the school to help fund the rewardee’s next year’s schooling. This award is given to a student who is not necessarily the highest achiever but who shows promise and is in need or some encouragement. This award is to be presented annually to a student selected by the staff of the school.

Three students from local schools attended the Forrest Edge Camp near Neerim and expressed considerable appreciation of the knowledge and encouragement that they received under this program. Each of them spoke very confidently when they shared a meeting with us, and the photo shows Derek, Tess and Jarrod being thanked by President Julie.
