Vocational Services Portfolio 08/09

Dromana began this years activities with a regular meeting night held at Dromana Secondary College catered for by the school Hospitality students and at which the VP Simon Jones spoke on the school and the vocational training provided in the school.
Seven Rotarians volunteered to speak at the school “Careers Fest” to provide vocational advice for the year 9 students.

A visit is planned to a member’s business, an apple orchard, in February next which is a quiet time for that industry and in daylight saving, which will allow for a meal and tour of the farm.

Other visits in planning are to a Helicopter Hire Service and to The Old Aeroplane restoration and maintenance services at Tyabb, SES base, Fox Auto Museum and a caravan factory. A visit to Holden Engine plant following the popular Toyota plant visit last looks likely to be delayed, as the plant is to close the four cylinder plant.

“Man Behind the Badge”talks for both old and new members will be scheduled as often as practicable to enable the whole club to know of others expertise and background.

Pride of Workmanship Awards have just been presented by the club in June. Two members are working with the Dromana Sea Scouts for their “Centenary of Scouting” celebrations for the 08 year. The involvement with Beyond Disability Inc. continues which helps provide computers for house bound disabled and “Wheelie Kids” with laptops for school and home use.
