A peripatetic member
Yes, its holiday time coming up, and from Thursday Gillian Carissa Kaihn and
I are off to the UK for 2 weeks, with a stay in Singapore on the way back.
We will be visiting Lichfield/Burton around where I grew up, London, and the
Lake District where I can indulge myself in my love of Arthur Ransome's
books and tour the sights.
We'll be keeping a blog of the trip at http://amblingaussie.blogspot.com and
posting video to youtube and pictures to somewhere or other if you are
interested in keeping in touch!

*THE FAR-DISTANT OXUS*
You may have heard vaguely of this book
and wondered about it. It was written by two teenage girls, Pamela
Whitlock and Katherine Hull, and is recommended by all who enjoy AR's
writing. AR wrote a long foreword for the book and encouraged the girls
in their writing.
The story concerns the activities of some young people who are
holidaying without parents on a farm in Exmoor, Somerset. The 'Oxus' is
a fictitious local river. They go everywhere on horseback, and meet a
mysterious boy, Maurice.
This popular book has been out of print for a long time, but now Fidra
Books have acquired the rights to produce the book, and are going to
re-publish it. You can get more details from their blog;
