Our newest member is Ian Penney, of Kettering in Tasmania. Ian lives on a yacht which he built himself, and is surrounded by some of Australia's best cruising waters. We extend a warm welcome to Ian and hope that he enjoys his membership.
AusTARS would like to congratulate TARS member Magnus Smith for winning the auction for the "Swallow" dinghy which was used in the 1976 movie of "Swallows and Amazons". Magnus had gone to great lengths to get contributions from TARS members around the world so that this close replica of the original "Swallow" would be available to TARS members to enjoy in the future.
It appears unlikely that there will be a T.A.R.S. calendar produced for 2010 (Gloom)
You will have read in the last issue of 'Furthest South' that my Tenth anniversary Project has been to design a range of fully G.A.-approved embroidered samplers. These are based on a number of favourite quotations from The Books. Some will be feasible for stitchers of average ability, while others, with illustrations, will keep experienced stitchers busy for a long time. You will find small images of the designs on the Members' Advertisments page. I have sent some to the TARS stall in the UK, but Australasian members should contact me to purchase them. As they are a fund-raising activity for AusTARS, no funds should be made payable to me. Your cheques should be made in favour of AusTARS!
Deadline for articles for Furthest South.
Please submit articles for the August edition of Furthest South to Courtney [see also below] before July 31st.
Articles for the third issue of our newsletter in 2010 are being sought now. The newsletter depends on YOU! Have you a tale of adventure, been to the UK on the AR trail, or could provide a short profile of yourself? If so, please send your article in a Word document by eel-mail to Courtney or at 79 Railway Parade, Bundanoon, N.S.W., 2578.
Jan Allen will continue to organise our AusTARS events but welcomes any help with this, if anyone would like to be involved with the planning
