Les Swift

Les was born in Melbourne in 1924 and was apprenticed to the Plumbing trade at age 14.

He saw service with the Royal Australian Air Force during WW2 as a Wireless Maintenance Mechanic and Radar Technician After 12 months training in Australia, he was posted overseas to Pembroke Dock in South Walesto work on Sunderland Flying Boats. After two years in Wales he was posted to various squadrons around UK, finally being sent to Germany to join the Occupational Air Force. In all, he saw 3years and seven months service.

He resumed his apprenticeship after the war and went on to run an industrial plumbing, mechanical services and air conditioning business.

He is married with five sons and two daughters.

He first started turning in 1950 but only occasionally until he joined the Peninsula Woodturners Guild .

Les is an accomplished artist.

Pepper and Salt Eggs in Cups

 

140 mm high. The eggs are made in Huon pine and the cups in Gutta Percha.
