Lewis Gibson

Lewis was born in Chester on the border of Wales on 14th February 1928. His childhood from 3 years of age was spent in an Orphanage on land owned by the Duke of Westminster.
His education was to secondary school until aged 13 but his real education commenced when he was placed in the Royal Navy at that age.
He travelled the world at no cost and visited places like Hiroshima and Nagasaki after they had been atom bombed. This experience and the sight of what the Japanese did to P.O.Ws gave him a lot of work in the peace movement when he finally arriving in Australia to realise the 'Brotherhood of Man'
He worked in a Sheetmetal working shop of three hundred low paid workers and he learned for many years how to organise and eventually become a fulltime official of the Amalgamated Metal Workers Union.
During the working period of his life, he and his wife raised five children. He also put a lot of time into music, he earning the harmonica, piano, and trumpet. He formed his own band and did a lot of part time work He passed examinations in music theory and built boats after building part of their house. They took their river boat all the way to Lake Alexandrena in South Australia and back in four years after he retired.
Music also lead him to the Australian Welsh Male Choir for eight years during which time the choir was invited to sing with the thousand voice choir at the Albert Hall in London during the Bi-Centennial celebrations. They also did a tour of Wales. On returning he bought a wood lathe.
In his quieter moments he has written papers in attempts to demystify Economics, History, the Political system and the Arbitration system. He has written much poetry and songs. After discovering why he spent his childhood in an orphanage he wrote his auto-biography and self published it for the State and National Libraries.
His philosophy towards life; he is a socialist from Hiroshima days; and co-operation is far more productive than competition. As in the last war, Australia came out of it with much co-operation and no debt.
He is an optimist, things can be done without stomping on other nations.
But then age does make one wonder at times.
