Ornamental Turning

   Enrichment of a Turned Article

I have been able to turn small discs of Perspex on the lathe and embellish them on the underside with a cutter held in the pedestal drill and with the work piece screwed on the holding thread of an indexing plate.

The indexing machine is home made but very positive in its workings and extremely accurate. It enables one to do repeat patterns with some degree of certainty, the only drawback is thast it will only do circles or parts of circles if the drill table is tilted. I have a small metal turning lathe which enables me to do the well known basket weave pattern on the outside of small lidded containers.

The cutter for this application is held in a vertical cutting frame and is driven by an overhead pulley system and a small electric motor which sits on the lathe platform.
