windowEvery program in MS Windows (95, 98..) runs in a window. A window is a kind of frame that lets you control the program. |

toolbarIf you like using the mouse, the toolbar lets you do things quicker. Most programs have at least one toolbar. Some programs (eg MS Word) have many. |
menu barEvery program has a menu bar. This is how you tell it what to do. The File menu usually has commands like Open, Save, Print, and Exit. The Edit menu usually has Cut, Copy, Paste and Select All. |
dialogue box
When you ask the machine to Save your work, or Open a file you saved earlier, or Print a file, you will find a dialogue box on the screen, asking for more information. | |
cursorWatch how it changes, because you can do different things with the mouse, depending on its form. For example, an hourglass cursor usually means you must wait |
scroll barEither click on the small black triangles, or drag the elevator button up and down. |
