Training and Tests
The lifesaving clubs trained people in the techniques
of surf life saving. They developed a set of swimming and lifesaving
tests, so that they could be sure that all lifesavers could do what
was required. For instance, new members must be able to swim 100 yards
on their front and 50 yards on their back with arms folded.
The Bronze Medallion was introduced in 1910, and still
is the basic qualification required to perform rescues today.
