Care provided in the home by experienced District Nurses, supported by a specialist
HIV/AIDS team. Provides care and support to people with HIV/AIDS in the Melbourne
Metropolitan area and the Mornington Peninsula.

Anyone can ask for RDNS services, the client, a family member or carer, local doctor,
hospital or other service provider.
 | Services Available
|
RDNS does not just provide nursing care. Many people with HIV/AIDS have to manage quite
complex treatments regimes, involving many different drugs. RDNS can help with this,
organising medications into dosette boxes and the like.

 | Confidentiality
|
Confidentiality is highly regarded by RDNS and maintained at all times. No aspect of
care is discussed without prior consultation and consent.
 | Integration with Other Services
|
Where appropriate and with consent, care may be co-ordinated with other health and
community service providers, volunteer and support groups( e.g. Victorian AIDS Council Support Program, or AIDS Care
Association).
 | Charges
|
State Government requires RDNS to charge a nominal fee for services. However, care will
not be denied due to inability to pay.
 | Education
|
Health education can be provided in the home by the district nurse.
Carers Workshops are held throughout the year at the RDNS Education Department. These
workshops provide practical information, advice and support, and take into consideration
the individual needs of carers. Topics may include: safe lifting techniques, care of the
carer, infection control etc...
