A Mouse in the House

By Paul McCann

A mouse was in the kitchen ,
my wife had just come in .
The baby started crying, all I could do was grin .
By the door there stood a broom that I took in my hand .
My wife then spied the mouse and screamed ,
"Mice I just can't stand!"
I knew how to trap it and began to chase it out ,
but no matter how calm I was she could only shout !
"Get it out of the kitchen . Get it out of the house!"
There was I running around trying to catch this mouse .
Through the room with a broom
I pulled all the cupboards bare .
The mouse was so quick it had gone ,
each time I got there ,
to where it was and it near got the better of me ,
as I started to pull the house apart ,
on my knee ,
I said a prayer ,
"God help me to get rid of this mouse"
Just at that the mouse calmly walked
right out of the house

The Case Of The Missing Sock

By Paul McCann

This world is full of odd socked folks ,
and the perfect pair is hard to find .
If you think I am crazy ,
I would urge you to keep an open mind .
What I am about to tell you is a secret that
no one has seen .
In relation to all those missing socks
lost from the washing machine.
Well, beyond this world of ours ,
sometimes a door to unknown unlocks
where three legged creatures roam through
into our world to pluck out our socks ,
one by one they pull through the wash ,
until they find one that matches three.
That's right ,
as long as I can remember ,
they've been stealing socks from me .
There are many other things that
the three legged creatures get up to .
Like the way only one heel will wear out first
before the other shoe .

Moving
By Paul McCann

When you’re moving house there’s so many things to pay .
That’s why I choose to move the do it yourself way .
We started packing boxes when the kids went down .
Each day the search was on to find boxes all round town .
There’s nothing like empty boxes to put things in ,
Once you’ve sealed your boxes up moving can begin .
You’ve got to have some vision when you pack the truck ,
prophetic if you like but most of it is luck .
Friends can give you a lift in more ways than you think ,
they’ll share the load as you go
even share a drink.
So up the steps with white goods ,
walking wardrobes in .
Stuck up in little corners brings a friendly grin .
Off loading things can be a healthy process too .
With a skip full of rubbish staring back at you .
It's great to close the door and let the old place go,
Then walk through a new door to unpack what you know .
There’s so much to put away anywhere will do .
But once you’re in the rest is really up to you

Murphy's Home Rules

By Paul McCann

Doing ten things at once I can get nothing done,
the house is upside down . Disaster struck at one .
I hung out the wash then the rain began to fall,
rushing out the door I was going up the wall .
The baby started crying, lunch began to burn,
the phone started ringing, I nearly took a turn .
A knock came to the door as I was on the phone ,
at that moment I stepped into the twilight zone.
