Unit Role
The role of the 51st Battalion Far North Queensland Regiment (51 FNQR) is to conduct surveillance and reconnaissance in Far North Queensland and the Gulf Country. This area of operations covers approximately 640 000 square kilometers. Together with the other Regional Force Surveillance Units, 51 FNQR provides the Australian Defence Force with an effective surveillance network of Northern Australia.

History
51 FNQR was raised in 1985. It's origin can be traced back to the 51st Battalion, the 1st Australian Infantry (51st BN, 1st AIF) and it is the only Regional Force Surveillance Unit (RFSU) to have Battle Honours.
