The Phillip Island Conservation Society endorses
the entitlement for citizens to participate in the planning process, which
is set out in the Victorian Planning and Environment Act. The Society
supports not only the right for citizens to contribute to planning issues,
but believes individuals have a responsibility to do so.
This section of the website will be used from time to time to provide
information on issues related to planning and conservation on Phillip
Island.

Planning Issues 2009
PICS is involved in various PLANNING ISSUES between now and the end of 2009.
The most important of these is C88, the Structure Plan for Silverleaves, Cowes and Ventnor. The Hearing, by Planning Panels Victoria is set for four days in Cowes commencing on Tuesday October 6, and then moves to Melbourne the following Monday where it will continue for three days, or longer if needed.
The PICS presentation will be made in the afternoon on Friday October 9. We will be concentrating on the setting of the residential boundaries to prevent any further development to the east of Coghlan Road in Cowes, and to the south of Cadogan Avenue in Ventnor.
The hearing of an objection to the removal of a large number of Melaleuca Ericifolia (Swamp Paperbark) and other indigenous vegetation on the east side of Coghlan Road, alongside the Golf Course has been deferred to an unknown date. PICS objects to the removal of this vegetation.
PICS objected to both applications for supermarkets in Thompson Avenue, Cowes. These were to go to VCAT, but the Minister has "called them in". We await his decision.
