Marlene McPherson

I have always loved textiles. I love the colours, the textures and the feel of fabrics. The major influences of my work are the methods, colours, and designs of Asia and Africa. I love collecting ideas, patterns and traditional textiles from my travels. In my work I like to start with a natural coloured piece of fabric then add colour to it by dyeing and printing, then use it in a variety of ways. I enjoy quilt making, felting and photography. The history of textiles and the importance that textiles has played in the social and economic lives of people of different cultures fascinates me.
