20 MARCH 2006
Gippsland MP Peter Hall has congratulated VicRoads on its rapid response to his request for an urgent re-marking of traffic lines on the Great Alpine Road. Mr Hall wrote to VicRoads early this month seeking action, following complaints from numerous constituents who were concerned that because of the repairs to the road, many of the line markings are not visible. Mr Hall received a response from VicRoads this week stating that the line marking had commenced and is scheduled for completion by the end of this week (24 March). The Nationals' MP said he was pleased VicRoads had responded so quickly, particularly with the Easter break looming. "The concern was that the large amount of re-sealing, patching and general wear and tear had virtually removed the centre line road markings along much of the Great Alpine Road. "It is a basic safety issue, especially on a road like the Great Alpine Road where the centre line road markings are vital as a guide for drivers." Mr Hall said he was delighted the works were now underway and would be completed this month. "Everything possible needs to be done to make our roads safe, particularly leading up to peak times like the Easter break."
