First Generation

  1. Richard Gribbell m. Grace ?, Illogan 2 Feb 1694

Richard, b. ?, bapt: ?, m. Grace (parentage unknown) 2 Feb 1694 d. ? It is beginning to look like this might have been Richard's second marriage. Camborne parish records transcribed by Sheila and Richard Townsend include a marriage between Richard Gribble and Magery (unknown) on 9 November 1689 along with an entry for the burial of Margery Gribble on 12 August 1690. In the absence of any likely birth records for Richard's Magery I believe she was probably the Margery who was buried. This Camborne transcription does not contain any other marriage record one might assign to this Richard. With Illogan's proximity to Camborne it seems not unreasonable to view this 1694 marriage as involving one and the same Richard. If it is, other researchers have quite persuasively traced Richard back to the Sancreed Gribbles!

Bawden's Illogan transcripts list the death of Ellanor Gribbell wife of John, on 4 Jul 1703 and the marriage of one John Gribbell, to Jane on 15 Nov 1703 along with William Gribel as the reported father of a child of one Grace (unknown) in 1693.

The dates suggest Richard might have had two brothers John and William. Perhaps three Gribbell brothers had gone to Illogan to work in the mines? Who knows from whence they came? A number of clues are beginning to suggest Sancreed via Camborne.
