Dr Jonathan Allin (M73) studied medicine at the University of Cape Town and was a specialist Pathologist in Rotorua, New Zealand but was in 2005 practising in Adelaide, South Australia.
Dr Paul Allin (M74) worked at the Wankie Colliery Hospital then the Manager for Health Services for Anglo American, Johannesburg. He is a GP and also in charge of the local hospital in Nowra, NSW. He and his wife, Anneliese have two daughters. Email
Peter Allin (M71) spent a year with the Bank of Calcutta and then had to be "evacuated from Kampala" in the Idi Amin era while in the Foreign Service of Grindlays Bank. He was a manager with ANZ Bank in London. He wrote in 2005: "I am now retired, having worked with ANZ Bank (in London & Middle East/Africa) for 30 odd years, having attained the position of Head of Credit Risk for the Private Banking Division. In 2002, my wife and I retired to a lovely seaside resort Javea, in Spain (Alicante Province), and we are presently both learning Spanish (I can more or less hold a conversation now). Email .

Andy Austin (M78) completed his schooling at St John's, Johannesburg and subsequently worked for BCL in Selebi Phikwe, Botswana.He wrote in 2005: "I left Botswana in 2004 to take up a position as Senior Projects Engineer in Solwezi, Zambia at Kansanshi Mine. My family are in Fourways, South Africa as I work on a fly-in fly-out basis (8 weeks on 2 week home)." Email .

Rhett Baines (P79) was the MD of a computer company in Harare. He now owns a guest house www.gateside.co.za in Hilton with his wife Phillipa, who runs it, while Rhett is the General Manager at the Victoria Country Club in Pietermaritzburg. Email .
Andrew Baker (G73) is MD of Cellarmaster Wines and National Sales Director of Simonsig Estate Wines in the Cape. He is married with a son and daughter.
Peter Baker's (M70) farm "Rocklands" in Marondera must be very attractive. It was expropriated without compensation in 2002 and initially allocated to the wife of Air Marshal Shiri, the head of the Zimbabwe Air Force after which the wife of Zimbabwe's Justice Minister, Patrick Chinamasa, showed a fancy for it. See 2003 press report. Our spies last spotted Peter, who is also a big game hunter of note, in 2003 collecting his child from the PH Nursery School (second marriage!) and looking in great shape despite everything he has had to put up with.

Antony Beaumont (P74) did his A Levels at Uppingham School and a Geography degree at Durham University before going to Sandhurst and being commissioned in the British Army. He is married with two daughters, lives in Melbourne and is the Country Manager of Russell Reynolds Associates, a leading international executive search firm. Mark Behrens (F70) wrote: "I completed an Honours Degree in Electrical engineering at Salford University then worked as an Engineer for ZCCM in Chingola, Zambia, where I met my wife, Dianne Cooper, a Marymount girl. We moved to Johannesburg where we married. I worked for General Electric as a Production Manager with Reid & Mitchell specialising in Off Highway equipment. After the GE left South Africa and a local management buyout, I became a director the the renamed Genwest. When this was acquired by Delta Electrical I became the Group IT Manager. I have recently moved to one of the large Delta companies to implement a new ERP system. I have 3 sons (at CBC Boksburg) and have a lovely house in Sunward Park, Boksburg. We enjoy the outdoors life of fishing, hiking, camping and touring South Africa, but also manage to go overseas most years.".markb@espa.co.za .
Ian Bendyshe-Walton left Harare in July 1999 and now lives by the beach in Deep Cove, North Vancouver, BC Canada with his wife Carol and their two daughters where he has an internet business.
Patrick Bennett (M71) was a consultant geologist in Durban. He wrote in 2003: "I now live in Sydney, after emigrating 14 years ago from Durban and am involved in funds management research. I now have a 4 year old son and 2 year old daughter. When time permits which is now a rare thing, I try to get in some sailing and ocean racing, a new passion." Email
Ralph Berkley (E76) read Mechanical Engineering at UCT before returning to Zimbabwe to engage in kapenta fishing. He drowned in Kariba in 1983.

Martin Betts (E73) went to UCT for two years and then decided to break his course temporarily and joined the RLI. He was killed in action in December 1977 in the Mtoko area.
Grant Bierling (F79) did a chiropratic course in England in the mid '90s and was intending to return to Zimbabwe.
Vidal Blackwood (E73) was still in Malawi working as a herbicide manager for the Sugar Corporation of Malawi in the late '80s.

Harvey Bowlt (P76) was the litigation partner in a firm of attorneys in Fish Hoek. Harvey refereed squash at the 1999 Commonwealth Games and is now a lawyer in Melbourne.

John Bradshaw (G78) previously divided his time between lecturing at the University of Zimbabwe and running the family farm near Marondera. He was injured in the Rhodesian war and his eyesight has been badly affected as a result. He is now the Headmaster of the Watershed College near Marondera. "The farm went the way they do in Zimbabwe."

Simon Broadley (E71) is married with a teenage son and lives in East Grinstead, UK. Simon studied law at Reading University but his career did not take him down the path of the legal profession and he is the Sales and Marketing Director for an Anglo/Danish company in the construction industry. Simon has spent several years working "abroad", particularly in Dubai (where he met his wife), Hong Kong and Singapore.
The Brodzsky family (Staff) Paul (Polly) who taught French at the school and Eagle for many years and his wife Jo both sadly died some years ago in Fishhoek. Their five daughters: Panna (Ann) Haskins lives in Marondera, Nikki Waller, who has three Petrean sons and is a grandmother, is a school teacher in Venda, Paula Chisholm lives in Cape Town, Cecelia Temlett has three children and been teaching music and drama at Chisipite for over 15 years and Kit Dock lives in Port Elizabeth. I then had 2 years at University of Natal followed by 2 years working for the Chronicle newspaper in Bulawayo. I went back to University of Natal in 1981 and completed my BA Psychology in 1982. I moved to Johannesburg and worked there for 22 years, 20 of them with Anglo American in International Human Resources. I then ended up in London, working at the Institute for Cancer Research, befroe moving to the Imperial Cancer Research Fund. When I first moved to London, I rented a bedsit in Barnes - Mr & Mrs Brodsky were renting the bedsit nextdoor (small world). Since then I have married, have three children, and live in Chesham, Buckinghamsire, which is a couple of miles from Berkhamstead, where Mr Coates (who taught me English for a year or so) comes from (I've only just found that out). Nigel Butler (E70) and his wife Angela were tragically murdered in their Chisipite home by their farm manager in March 1999, leaving four teenage daughters. Nigel was prominent in Zimbabwean farming and business circles and previously owned the Financial Gazette. He studied at King's College, London, majoring in biochemistry and completed a Masters Degree in molecular biology at Cardiff.

Andrew Cairns (P76) wrote in 2003 : "I have run my own firm in Bournemouth, UK providing independent financial advice to private individuals and small companies for about 17 years, when not sailing or on the golf course. I am married to Catherine and have four children."

Kerry Capstick-Dale (P76) sadly died of cancer in Cape Town on 28 May 2008. He was 49. Kerry was born and raised in Chingola and Salisbury and went to Springvale prior to Peterhouse. After Peterhouse he did a masters degree in Political Science at University of Cape Town and settled in the city where he lived ever since. At Peterhouse Kerry was very active in the Choir, the Male Voice Choir, Drama and the Debating Society among other things. He was an Honours Tie recipient. A keen sports fan (Everton supporter), Kerry wasn’t in the first rank of sporting talent, but played rugby and football enthusiastically. After university, Kerry built a career in public relations and corporate communications, since the late eighties in his own business, Corporate Image. He had a lasting association with the Pick n Pay group and personal friendship with its owners, the Ackerman family. Kerry was a very active member of the Cape Town Club, serving on the committee in various capacities.

Tyrone Clack (G79) went to Manchester Polytechnic, did a degree in metallurgy at Aston University, Birmingham and worked for a mining company in Zambia for four years before moving to the UK. He was the Operations Manager of the Piston Pin Facility of Federal Mogul, an automotive component manufacturing company in Bradford. Tyrone is married with four kids and lived in Burley-in-Wharfedale, a small village north of Leeds. He wrote in 2005 : "After living in the UK for 17 years I moved with my family to New Zealand in May 2005, and have settled in the North Island at a lovely place called Snells Beach. John Clayton (P74) is married with three kids and lives on a huge farm in Zambia. He was the President of the Zambia National Farmers Union in 2003. John often see Des Sharp, Henry and Jumbo van Blerk, Dave Eastcroft, Paul Golson, Martin Clark and occasionally Colin Sammons and Bruce Danckwerts. Chris Cocks (P74) moved to Johannesburg from Zim in 1997 and has four children. He is an author and publisher of note. His Fireforce has achieved widespread acclaim as the classic account of the Bush War in its intensely personal and sensitive treatment of Chris' reluctant participation in an unhappy time in Zimbabwe's history. He formerly ran the publishing business Covos-Day in partnership with Martyn Day (M73.) Paul Crook (M70) did undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in law at Jesus College, Cambridge (whose alumni include Oliver Beaumont, Kiff Seager, Giles Dolleymore, Chris Hammond and Nigel Storah) he joined leading international law firm Allen & Overy in 1976 becaming a partner in 1984. He specialises in mergers and acquisitions and headed up their corporate practice in Paris from 1993 - 1996, having been admitted as a French avocat. He lives in Wimbledon and has a three children. Garth Culver (M72) went to university in the USA and lectured in mathematics. He died in a car accident in 1978.
Tim Cumming (G75). joined the SA army after leaving school (armoured cars) and then went on to Cape Town University where he did Civil Engineering. He won a South African-at-large Rhodes Scholarship and read PPE at Oxford University (Oriel College) from 1981-83. Tim joined Anglo American Corp as a management trainee before going to Cape Town as the General Manager at Allan Gray Investment Counsel till 1992 and then as Head of Investment Research at HSBC Simpson McKie (stockbrokers) in Johannesburg. He wrote in December 2006: "I handed over my CEO role in Old Mutual Asset Managers (South Africa) at the end of 2003 and did nearly 3 years of international consulting and strategy work for Old Mutual’s international (US and Europe) operations and have now returned as MD of Old Mutual’s Corporate business in South Africa. Gwinai Dangaremba (P75) did a BSc at North East London Polytechnic specialising in Chemistry and Mathematics and was doing well for himself in business in Harare when we last heard.
Bruce Dankwerts (M72) is still in Choma, Zambia, where he farms. He met Simon Burgess (F75) and Dave Eastcroft (E70) at a Polo Crosse tournament in Lusaka and reports that John Ashburner (M72) was "behind the bar at a wedding in Banket 1998".
Doug Darby (P77) taught at the Africa for Christ Bible College in Gweru, and was last reported to be the Pastor of the New Life Centre in Gweru as well as being the father of three children.
Ian Darby (P73) died in 1998.
Martyn Day (M73) is a very high profile product liability lawyer in London, who is frequently seen on BBC and CNN. His firm Leigh Day & Co won the 1997 "UK Law Firm of the Year" award and was runner up in 1998. Martyn handled the Sellafield nuclear fallout case in Cumbria, is one of the prime movers in a major tabacco industry case, is taking the Japanese Government on over prisoners of war issues and is heavily involved in handling asbestosis cases in southern Africa. Nikki Davidson (G77- Girls not Grinham) had the distinction of of being the second girl to do A Levels at Peterhouse (3 A Grades plus distinctions in Maths & Physics 'S' papers). Nikki was awarded a Beit Scholarship to study Mech.Eng. at UCT, got a first and a Beit postgraduate fellowship to do an MSc in Environmental Technology at Imperial College, London. She worked 1984-7 as the Manager of Botswana Technical Information Service and in 1988 was a founding partner of Aptech, Harare, of which she was Technical Director. Nikki is married to another engineer, Steffen, and has two very blonde daughters. JMWD is of course the bursting-with-pride Dad! Nikki moved to Edmonton, Canada in 2001, where she, her husband and business partner 'set up shop' .

David Denning (G71) wrote in February 2004 : "I work for Girlguiding Anglia (part of the Girl Guide network, now renamed) as Centre Manager for a training and activity centre in deepest, darkest Norfolk. I get to instruct interesting activities like Canoeing, Kayaking, Archery, Climbing and Abseiling (the latter two on an artificial tower and not up Kopjes as on the Porterhouse Estate, though that was just an excuse to go smoking! and am in my second childhood! (I don't have to wear the uniform, though!)" Email .

Being ever resourceful Phil has engaged a graphic artist and is now manufacturing transfer tattoos (temporary adhesive decals). He is the President, CEO. and a shareholder of The John Newcombe Tennis Ranch, New Braunfels, Texas. It is a 250 acre resort with 28 tennis courts, 50 condominiums, restaurant, bar, and recreational amenities. The Hall family: Andrew (P72), twin brother of Mike (P72), is married to Rowena. They have two children, Kingsley and Elayne. Andrew and Rowena both taught at Peterhouse from 1981-1993. Andrew was Head of the English department, coached lowly, but winning(!), cricket and rugby teams, put on various plays, and ran the engineering club. He was also the first housemaster of Snell House when it opened in 1984. Rowena taught French, was involved in many theatrical productions as a choreographer and taught piano at Springvale House. Since leaving Peterhouse they have taught at the International School of South Africa, Mafeking, and at Aiglon College, Switzerland where they have been since January 1996. Richard Hudson (M71) studied at the Jacob Kramer College of Art in Leeds and is a world renowned set and costume designer, who has worked at most of the world's leading opera houses including Glyndebourne, Covent Garden, Chicago and Venice. Richard won a Tony award - the theatrical equivalent of an Oscar - for his Broadway set design of The Lion King. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Royal Designer for Industry (R.D.I.) - the highest award for a designer in the UK, one of only 180 There have been Hudson productions of The Lion King in New York, London, Tokyo, Fukuoka, Los Angeles, Toronto, Sydney, Amsterdam and Hamburg. In 2003 Richard won the Gold Medal for Set Design at the Prague Quadrenniale, and in 2004 designed Wagner's Ring Cycle for the English National Opera. He lives and works in London and a country home in the Loire Valley in France.

Andrew Jackson (F71) gained an MSc in Economic Geology at the University of Western Ontario, Canada . He wrote in March 2006:" I left South Africa in 1996 with my wife, Jackie, and two daughters, to join Placer Dome, a Canadian mining company. I spent 2 years in Vancouver before moving in turn to San Jose in California, Reno in Nevada, and now San Diego, California. I now manage exploration teams at Placer Dome's mines in N and S America, Africa and Australasia, which keeps me well supplied with frequent flier points!" Steve Jonker (M73) is married to Virginia and has 3 children. He first worked as an instructor at the Outward Bound Mountain School in Chimanimani and then trained as a mechanical engineer in South Africa before moving to England in 1985. There Steve livd ed in Lymington, Hampshire and owned Marine Concepts, mechanical design and project engineers specialising in masts, rigging and deck gear for sailing yachts. He is still very keen on sailing, both racing and blue water cruising, and get out on the water as often as work and family allow. We heard in December 2004 that Steve had moved to Middelburg, Holland and was working for a company designing yacht masts and rigging. The family are mastering the Dutch language and settling down well. Steve's parents Guurke and Ernst are retired and living in Portugal, and his sister Maaike (ex Nagle House) lives with her family in Melbourne, Australia.

Ed Katso (Staff E71 and 88-96) returned in 1988 for his third stint on the Peterhouse staff; one that saw him run soccer and chess, serve as house tutor, head Biology and Science and organise several successful educational trips to the Zambezi Valley at the Rifa camp. Murray Leslie (M71) wrote in February 2006: "I went to RAC Cirencester 1972, where I met Paul Wood (P71) who was at that time planning to farm rather than preach. After gaining a Dip. Agr., I moved to Cambridge UK and worked as an histologist and latterly as an electron microscopist at the Institute of Animal Physiology. During this period I worked with several semi pro bands as their 'sound engineer', which was rewarding financially as well as an interesting way of seeing the life of budding 'rock stars'. In 1979 I returned with my wife Glendyr to the family dairy farm near Blantyre, Malawi. We have two daughters, both of whom live in the UK. I stopped farming in 1997, and joined a large multinational company as a consultant and shortly afterwards, took up a management position with a farming organisation and now live in Lilongwe. He wrote in February 2005: "I moved last year from the leafy squares of Islington to take over as head of parks and open spaces in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Local authority gardeners being a fairly competitive lot, early successes in the most densely populated borough in Europe included four Gold Awards in the London in Bloom competition and a Silver in Britain in Bloom campaign. This year my team based in Holland Park are back again as finalists in Britain in Bloom and additionally putting the finishing touches to a £5 million parks improvement programme (a unique scenario in an area of local government more used to dealing with financial cut-backs). Humf Raynor (P70) whose father taught at Peterhouse, still produces copious quantities of wine in Wedza. He was shot in the leg in an incident in Harare in July 2000, but has recovered. His now grown up children have been standout Peterhouse students over the years, espdecially on the sports field.

Harry Roberts (E77) is married with two kids. He completed his schooling at Marandellas High, where he played for the Rhodesian Schools rugby team. After this Harry was hooker in 100 games in 1984-1993 for Transvaal (Golden Lions), Junior Springboks and Springboks 1992 (France & UK Tour) and in the UK for the Leicester Tigers. Harry was involved with rugby and coaching the Leicester Tigers and also gained an MSc in Sport & Exercise Psychology at Loughborough University. Tim Shepherd (73) studied engineering at Bristol University, married a Norwegian and worked for Lucas C.A.V. in London from 1977 to 1980 before moving to Oslo with Siemens. He lived there until 1989 when he moved with Siemens to Nürnburg, Germany where he works as a Product Marketing Manager. He has two multi-lingual children, who may be even better linguists than their father who is getting sick of having to work in new languages. Tim organised a memorable and incredibly successful reunion in Britain some years ago of 1973 leavers which included Paul Cavin, Peter Fenton, Hugh Boyt, Nigel Emslie, George Friedman, Rob Symonds (now back in Canada), Eric Whaites, Steve Jonker, Alaister Abbey (a pilot with British Airways along with Nick Wedgewood) and Mark Stuart.This was the culmination of a two year search during which he located 45 - 50 of the 66 - 70 leavers that year. Arthur Stevens (F76) graduated in Business Studies from Sheffield University and was working for National Westminster Bank in London years ago.
Charles "Tigs" Siddle (P75) is still known as Tigs. He runs an impressive operation at Mazabuka, which includes coffee, dairy, a feedlot and maize. He has a son at St Andrews in Grahamstown and a daughter at Rhodes. Tigs played a role in getting Musikili School up and running. This is the only Zimbabwean type Prep school in Zambia.
Tony Siddle (P74) and Ingrid had a daughter born in Johannesburg in 1999. He is reported to be back in Zambis involved in the setting up of Chengelo School in Mkushi. In some ways this school looks like Peterhouse and is set in magnificent surroundings.

Andy J Smith (E75) is a 6 handicap golfer, who is married with two kids and speaks fluent Dutch. Arthur Stevens (F76) has been back in Malawi for 12 years following a career in merchant banking in the City of London. Nigel Storah (E70) graduated from Jesus College, Cambridge before being commissioned into the RAF and gained his wings at Cranwell. He was tragically killed in a flying accident in Gutersloh, Germany in 1980 when the Harrier Jump Jet he was landing suffered a mechanical failure. He ejected, but at low altitude this could not be successful.

Dale Sumbureru (M76) distinguished himself while at school by writing a popular jingle for a local shoe company, which was much played on radio and TV. He studied at Loma Linda University in Southern California and was a professor at the University of Washington in Medicine and Public Health and Epidemiology. Alistair Travers (M78) studied at Rhodes University, after which he chose to become a professional hunter. He pioneered professional bow-hunting "the Big 5" and was tragically killed whilst hunting buffalo in Zimbabwe in the mid-90's.

Tony 'Bonk' Wilkins (P76) has had spectacular rollercoaster ride through life. In 1981 Tony ran his own cattle ranch in Zambia "plus breeding warm blood horses for eventing, some of which are now doing very well in RSA., then property development in Zambia. Also went sailing, in a 68' San Germani teak ketch in the Med. Enjoyed this expensive 'hole in the water' for 18 months then sold at modest profit before setting up a hotel in Kent on the main coastal road to the Channel Tunnel. 1990, travelled extensively in S.E Asia, and then back to Cape Town where I studied estate agency with object of selling cross-over U.K./Cape property and then landed in hospital in Jersey, C.I. for a while." David Wood (P) is a teacher in Bath, UK and has five children.
Paul Wood (P) was the Vicar of Mansfield, near the ski fields just north of Melbourne but before moving to Point Lonsdale, but now lives in Melbourne. Austin sadly died in 1984 when he was working at Grasslands Research Centre.
M G Wolstenholme (P) describes himself as a "tobacco farmer and world traveller, unmarried." He was living in Chegutu.
Neil Wrench (E70) was one of the outstanding sportmen of his generation. He attended Gwebi and returned to the family farm at Norton. He was injured on the cricket field in 1979 when fielding and tragically died soon afterwards.
Michael Wright (E70) is a stockbroker in the City of London. He is married with four children.
Graham Yates (M77) moved to Toronto in 1978, where he was a producer at Bravo, Canada's Arts TV channel. He shot an award winning documentary on the South African arts scene in 1998. Graham moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia in 2001 to work for a new TV station. gyates@ifctv.ca .
