Nicholas Agg-Manning (P67) lives in Devon and runs the Landrover Experience. He is married with three daughters.

Roddy Agg-Manning (P65) was commissioned in the British Army, but was invalided out after being involved in a serious tank training accident worked very successfully in insurance in London. He married Susan (nee Cliff ) who was from Kenya in 1980 and they moved back to Kenya where Roddy continued to work in insurance and had two children. Sadly, Roddy died on 23 December 1986 from a brain tumour. Susan has now remarried, and the family are still based in Kenya. jaggmanning@yahoo.com .

Keith Alexander (F64), the well-known and accomplished South African painter sadly died of an inoperable brain tumour in 1998. Keith died too young: he had so much more to offer and share. Murray Alexander, Keith's elder brother, one of the first two boys at the school, who stayed at the Rector's Lodge in 1954 while the rest of the school was being built, met Alan Watkins at the hospital while visiting Keith.

Bryan Ansombe (F65) wrote in January 2006:"I have had a career in Human Resources management with BP Oil in South Africa, and then in Healthcare in British Columbia, Canada for twenty years. I am currently working my last year before retirement as a Human Resources Consultant to the University of Victoria. Vancouver Island is a wonderful part of the world in which to live. I am married to Leah and I have two children, my son, a commercial pilot in Calgary, and my daughter, a nurse in Edinburgh, Scotland. " Email .

Nick Arnot (M60) has run a firm of solicitors in Wincanton, Somerset for many years.

Dr Richard Arnot (M59) is a successful rural general surgeon at Lismore, New South Wales. He flies his own plane and his autobiography was published in 1998. His brothers: Tim lives in Hilton, Natal and Nick lives in Somerset, UK. Richard originally practised medicine in the UK but moved to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. There he was in the wrong place at the wrong time when two nurses fell to their deaths from the balcony of his flat during a party. He and his wife were held in prison while being investigated for murder in a country that invokes the death penalty. They were cleared, but sentenced to be flogged for "social crimes." Mercifully this was not carried out. Ian Ashby (P62) has worked as a commerical pilot.

Patrick Ashton (F67) farms in Mtorashanga. He was in the news in January 2002 when assaulted by an armed gang from the ZANU-PF Youth Brigade and left with axe wounds and his house trashed in the presence of the Police. His unlisted farm has been partially occupied by "war vets" for two years.

Chris Bantoft (G65) joined the Imperial Tobacco Group in London as a management trainee after graduating from UCR and was involved in Formula One motor racing when working as a sponsored events manager for W D & H O Wills in England. He then went into the telecommunications industry which took him to Australia and the USA. Richard Barlow (F67) did A levels at Mount Pleasant, a law degree at UCR, worked in Zimbabwe for the Public Prosecutor, MBA , UCT in 1981 and is now chief in-house counsel with Alfatron. He is married with four young children and lives at Halfway House, midway between J'oburg and Pretoria.

John Baron (P64) started his working life as an internal auditor with Ford Motor Co in Brentford, UK. Eric Baron (P66) qualified as a Bachelor of Technology at Bradford University.

Martin Barron (M66) was awarded a 1st class honours degree in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College, London. He then worked on uranium oxide extraction near Klerksdorp in South Africa. He was with Dole Fruit in Oregon USA but is now with a construction company in Oregon. baron@icon.co.za.

Peter Barrett Ryan has lived in Perth since January 1978. Peter is married with two grown up sons and worked as a financial consultant with the AMP Society. He left the insurance industry in July 1998 when he and his wife Diana had a four month trip to the UK and Europe after which Diana returned to work at the University of Western Australia and Peter decided to decide what to do next!

Michael Barter (E67) is a successful orthodontist with practices in Johannesburg and Botswana.

Richard Barter (E67) must be the first person to have left Kalgoorlie, Western Australia after living there for 25 years without finding a speck of gold. Dave Bawden (P61) was the Headmaster of Cordwalles School, Pietermaritzburg, but he left there some years ago. He is now the Head of the junior school of Merrifield College, a new independent set-up in East London.

Major Andrew Beaumont (M69) was the Operations and Training Major of an Infantry Battalion in Nottinghamshire, UK when we last heard years ago. Co-incidentally he lived on Chilwell Station which only has 20 houses where Major Patrick Brown also lived.

Oliver Beaumont (P66) is the Petrean Webmaster and lives in Melbourne,where he is a solicitor. He was one of the long line of Petreans to have studied at Jesus College, Cambridge. Oliver is an enthusiastic, if increasingly slow, rugby referee.viking@vicnet.net.au

Judge Peter Beaumont Q C (P61) was appointed a Circuit Judge in 1989 and sat initially at Chelmsford Crown Court. In 1995, he was appointed Senior Circuit Judge at the Old Bailey and from 2001 held the post of Common Serjeant of London. He has been sitting as an additional judge of the Court of Appeal, Criminal Division since 1996 and in 2004 was appointed Recorder of London, the senior judge at the Old Bailey.

Dr George Begg (M62) got a BSc from Rhodes (1965), completed his military training (Rhodesian Artillery) and then joined the Department of National Parks & Wildlife Management at Kariba (1966 -1974) as a limnologist. He wrote in 2003 "There, I ran into a gorgeous Arundel girl (Lea Howman) teaching at the local school, married her and between us we have since raised three children. A son (a wildlife photographer, now studying honey badgers in the Kalahari) and two daughters (one now a teacher in England and the other the International Relations Officer at St Marks College in Perth).In 1974 we moved to Cape Town where I worked as the staff ecologist on Marina da Gama ; in 1976 went to Natal, joined the Oceanographic Research Institute and, by 1983, had completed my PhD at Natal University. A few years later, I formed my own environmental consulting business and, before emigrating to Perth, Western Australia (in 1997), ran it for 12 years. We have since move to warmer climes in the Northern Territory (Darwin) where I work for Environment Australia as a wetland ecologist. Being surrounded by swamps and crocodiles I at last really feel "at home" again!"

Dr Ron "Ringo" Behrens (F69) trained in medicine at the University of Zambia, but went to in Britain in 1976 and finished his postgraduate training in 1981 working in Birmingham, London and Cambridge. Ron is currently a consultant physician at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in London and Lecturer in Tropical Medicine at the London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. He gained a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) from the University of London in 1992 and was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 1996. Ron has worked (mainly research) in a number of developing countries, but not Zambia or Zim. He lives in Harpenden outside St Albans with his wife and 2 children and travels 4-5 times annually on lecture tours and to conferences. ron.behrens@ntlworld.com .

Clive Bennett (M67) did a five year training management course with the Savoy Hotel, London. After managing hotels in South Africa including the Royal Hotel, Durban he returned to the UK for a spell. Returned to Cape Town in 2004 to manage the Twelve Apostles Hotel and now lives in Hout Bay.

Charles Bentley (G67) The ever unreliable "Frank Source" claims that "Charles was for many years was fruit farming in the Cape, until a downturn in the industry forced him to change careers. He now teaches English in Trento, northern Italy, still struggling with writing ( one novel published) and trying to climb mountains. A son and daughter studying at UCT."

T W H 'Billy' Bell (P66) did an electrical engineering degree at Newcastle University where he played rugby for the 1st XV. He was last reported to be school teaching in England.

Mark Berry (E64) is Group Ecologist for De Beers responsible for environmental management at its mining operation based at the head office in Kimberley. Alex Bishop (F68) wrote in July 2002: "I am still M.D. of UTi (previously Union-Transport) Africa Division, based in Johannesburg, still travelling Africa and globe. Regret have not been able to attend any of the Petrean functions in Johannesburg, but will. Colin Black (M59) a founder member of the school in 1955 died in America in 2005 of brain cancer. He left Rhodesia in the '70s and went to South Africa where he worked for Cummins Diesel. This job took him to the UK, then to the USA.

James Black (M61) went to the University College of Rhodesia and took up teaching. He taught at various schools in Rhodesia before going to South Africa in 1980. After a brief spell in Pretoria, he moved to Port Shepstone in Natal where he taught at Port Shepstone High and eventually became headmaster and retired in 2004. James now lives in Hilton in Pietermaritzburg where he works part-time at a local private school.

Robin Black (M63) worked for Puzey and Payne, Harare before moving to Brighton, UK in 1990 where he has been with a local Peugeot dealership for about 15 years. His children both graduated from Brighton University. Email .

Hugh Borthwick (P69) lives in Petersfield, Hampshire, is married to Christine and has three 'not so young' children who are now all leaving the nest. Mike Boyd-Clark (F63) "a founder of Founders" after running his own consulting business in Harare for many years, Mike, Carolyn and their 3 Petrean offspring moved to Auckland, New Zealand in 1999. They are all having a ball and enjoying Auckland's outdoor lifestyle, where Mike is running a consulting business and doing a lot of scuba diving. He wrote in June 2004 :"I am still lecturing business at a local polytechnic and I am back at school again, studying towards a second masters degree, and for a qualification in tertiary teaching. " Carolyn is teaching at Takapuna Grammar, a leading private school. Mike graduated BSc (UCR) and MBA (UCT) and ran the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries and Eastern and Southern African Business Organisation ("ESABO"). A knee injury made him give up his tennis, squash and long distance running careers, which included a bronze medal for the Comrades Marathon in 1983. Graham Boynton (M61) completed his schooling at CBC in Bulawayo. "Frank Source" claims that "he went to University of Natal where he was involved in student politics. He got into journalism and became editor of Scope Magazine then moved to the UK and worked for a magazine called Business Traveller. He is now the Travel Editor of the Daily Telegraph as well as contributing articles to the Telegraph on Southern African politics. He has written a book called "Last days in Cloud Cuckooland" and according to the sleeve notes lives in New York." He was sighted covering the 2002 elections in Zimbabwe and continues to have articles published in the Daily Telegraph as well as being travel editor.

John Bradford (E60) was an accountant with Altec in Jhb and then a director of Castrol. He sadly passed away in Johannesburg in October 2007.

Paul Branston (G69) read a B.Com at Liverpool University and qualified as a chartered accountant in London in 1977. He worked in audit and financial management positions in a number of different countries with two multinational companies and returned to London in the late '80s to join a financial management consultancy practice, before becoming finance director of a client company in the mid '90s; a position he still holds . paul@pb-assoc.demon.co.uk .

Neil Bruce-Miller (F66) wrote in June 2002: "I worked for BAT as a member of their international staff based out of London until two years ago when I was able to opt for early retirement. I was posted during my career to many parts of the world including long spells in Zaire (12 years in all), Kenya, Sierra Leone, Turkey, Finland, Central Asia and latterly China. I am now enjoying a quieter life in the UK, where my wife and I own and run a small farm in Somerset. We have three sons who are all in their 20's now. With the downturn in British agriculture, the prospects of continuing farming here are not looking bright and we are considering realising the significant real estate value of our farm and emigrating to New Zealand." brucemillers@xtra.co.nz .

Ian Buchan (E66) did his post graduate teacher's diploma at UCT and his practice teaching at Bishop's under his ex-Housemaster, Anthony Mallett. Ian has taught for many years at Barker College, a leading private school just north of Sydney with an enviable academic record and a great sporting tradition. Email .

Kevin Calder-Potts (M66) who studied at Queen's College, Belfast, lived in Auchtermuch, Scotland working as the Registrar of the Fife Health Board before emigrating to Tasmania in the '90s. He is now a consultant psychiatrist in Brisbane, Queensland, where he is married with children.

Ralph "Cappie" Capouya (G60) was a founder member of the school and left Zimbabwe in 1984. He reports: "I am alive and well residing in Cape Town where I have been for the past 15 years. I have a Touring /Shuttle business. I entered Peterhouse in 1955 left in 1960. I graduated from Ellis to Paget then to Grinham and was about to be moved to Founders when my mother resisted as she was sick and tired of changing my colour tags on my clothing!"

Rick Carnecky (G67) wrote in May 2006: "After graduating from Natal University in 1971, I spent a few years 'exploring life' before getting a real job with the Bata Shoe Organisation in Zimbabwe. After a few years managed to wangle a transfer as production manager to Mauritius. Spent four glorious years in that tropical paradise before being transferred to Kenya as Leather Factory Manager. Stuck it out for a couple of years until a transfer to Bangladesh was imminent. Pulled the pin and moved to South Africa and settled in Johannesburg. Got itchy feet around 1997 and moved 'Down Under'. Ended up as OH&S / Quality manager for an Aluminium Extrusion company. Now we are getting itchy feet again. Have bought a caravan and 4x4 and are readying ourselves to travel to the great beyond for an indeterminate period." myrick@aapt.net.au .

Tim Carroll (F67) completed his education in England at Clifton College then spent the next 20 years working in Electronic Communications "before resorting to that last refuge of all scoundrels - politics" He is the Leader of South Somerset District Council and Cabinet Member on Somerset County Council. He wrote in February 2002: "My allegiance isn't to the Tory party (nor Tony Blair for that matter). Am living between Wincanton and Bruton in Somerset (which I represent) with wife Ann and 3 children who are in process of moving out or attending university. Guy Cary (G66) who studied at UCR, served, led and taught with distinction at Peterhouse for 17 years (1984 - 2001) where he ran Interact, Toastmasters, Kukuru Neshungu, the Chapel Choir, played the organ and enthusiatically led many expeditions to Chimanimani and Nyanga. All this was as well as being Director of Drama, a mould breaking Housemaster of Tinokura and an extremely amusing, selfless and inspirational driving force behind the cultural, dramatic and musical activities of the school. Peter Carter (F68) previously lived in Gauteng where he worked for the C.S.I.R. but relocated in 1998 to Cincinnati, Ohio. He wrote in 2005: "I am working for Alstom Power in Connecticut, which is a major manufacturer of power stations amongst other things. I do something called "Structural Integrity" which is aimed at preventing mechanical disasters."Email

Roy Cheesman (M59) owned a pharmacy in Cape Town for many years which he sold in 1995. Roy is now organising sporting events and in mid-1998 was busy with the World Canoeing Championships near Cape Town. Crispin Clay (F62) has owned a bottle store in Luderitz, Namibia for many years. Doubtless a thirsty place! The ever unreliable "Frank Source" claims: "His wife, having run the Lighthouse until it was automated a few years ago, is now Harbour Master."

Richard Clothier (M63) was formerly chief executive of the food and agribusiness company Dalgety plc in England, the biggest manufacturer of petfood in UK - amongst other things - and a director of Granada plc. He has joined forces with Rupert Pennant-Rea (E65) and Nick Roditi (F63) as the CEO of Plantation & General Investments with interests as diverse as wheelbarrows and tea! His brother Patrick (M65) sadly died of cancer in March 1996, leaving a wife, 2 sons and a daughter in Pietermaritzburg, Kwa-Zulu Natal.

Michael Collins QC (E66) is bencher of Gray's Inn and has 30 years' experience in commercial litigation and arbitration. He is a Special Legal Consultant to Crandall Hanscom and Collins P.A. in Rochland, Maine where he lives and practises as an advocate and arbitrator in the field of international arbitration. He has acted regularly as advocate in trial and appellate courts in London and overseas in Hong Kong, Singapore and Bermuda and has a wide-ranging arbitration practice both as advocate and arbitrator. John Cowap (G68) farmed in Zimbabwe until expropriated. He sadly passed away on the 28 December 2004 whilst running a pub/restaurant in England.

Edward Cox (E64) was back in Zimbabwe for a couple of years and but left in 1999 for the UK where he is completing an MBA with the Manchester Business School and also working for a Business Research team within a London based TV network. His farewell lunch/50th birthday party in Harare included numerous Petreans - Andy Huck, Adrian Hosack, Chip Johnson, David Peech, etc.

Brian Crawley (E66) did a Yacht and Boating Management course and was last sighted in the USA many years ago.

Charles Crawshaw (P68) is an orthopaedic surgeon in Gloucester, UK.

Paul Creigh (G69) lives in Jo'burg and has his own roofing company.

Martin Cross (M66) who studied at Nottingham University, was in a very senior management position with JCI in Johannesburg but joined the Standard Bank group in 1998 as managing director of Standard Risk & Treasury Management Services, providing outsource services to corporate clients.He writes: "We see a lot of Tony Harrison (F66) and share many interests in food, wine & flyfishing!".

He qualified in mining engineering at the Royal School of Mines and then got an MSc in Mining Engineering from the University of Witswatersrand. Martin then joined the Standard Bank in Salisbury leaving in 1982 to do an Advanced Diploma in Computer Studies in London. He held senior management positions with Anglo American in Zimbabwe for 19 years, including running Mazowe Citrus Estates, but was the MD of Eastern Highlands Plantations Limited in Hauna when we last heard. Michael Fisher (P67) has a magnificant ranch on the Kafue River just outside Kitwe where Roy Currie (Staff) often goes and camps for the weekend during the dry season. HIs ranch must be one of the last remaining unspoiled farms in Zambia. Roy reports that the charcoal burners are having a field day and are chopping down the indigenous trees as fast as they can. Mike has a son at Simba and another at a school called Amano near Chingola. The Fisher family were amongst the first Europeans to come to Zambia in the late 1800s.

John Ford (E69) spent 20 years after school working in London as a practising Chartered Accountant. He married Charlotte, sister of fellow Ellis House inmates James and Simon Broadley. John returned to Harare in 1991 and started an upmarket hotel, Imba Matombo www.imbahotel.com , which he sold in 2006. He now runs the Bupa International offices in Zimbabwe and Jo'burg. He retired in June 2004 after spending several years running a $600 million global distressed debt fund for Bank of America and then several hedge funds for various investors. Edward ("Blondie") Holden (G62) attended Gwebi and then joined the Zambia Air Force where he learned to fly. Blondie joined the Lesotho Flying Doctor Service and was tragically killed in November 1967 when the plane he was flying for the service crashed due to engine failure. Blondie and the doctor were killed: there were no patients on board.

David "Johnny" Holden (G66) did a B.Econ at Natal Varsity where he met and married Margaret Maartens from Harare and Oriel School. They have two kids, a boy David just going to University and a girl Beatrice half way through a liberal arts course at Northwestern University in Chicago.Johnny then operated overland expeditions all around the world based in UK (71 to 75) then qualified as a Chartered Management Accountant in London (75 to 78). Johnny has worked in business as an accountant and Managing Director in the UK and the USA and then spent 5 years in Kenya as Managing Director for Abercrombie & Kent, a world wide travel firm. Professor Bill Holderness (P66) studied at Rhodes, completed a B Ed part time while teaching at St Andrew's College, Grahamstown followed by an MA at the Institute of Education in London, was formerly a lecturer at the Johannesburg College of Education and senior lecturer in English at the University of Bophuthatswana (Univ of the North West) for 15 years and is now a Professor at the University of Port Elizabeth. His wife Rosalind is a teacher and they have three daughters. Bill writes: "I have kept up the singing and acting, which I enjoyed at Peterhouse. In 1965, we produced 'HMS Pinafore' with John Hodgson and Hugh Ramsbotham. John Honey (P61) studied at Jesus College, Cambridge and is a urologist/transplant surgeon in Toronto and the Director of the kidney stone programme at the University of Toronto. He had a stint as a Professor in the medical school at the University of Zimbabwe some years ago.

Mike Honey (P58) a founder of the school and first Head Boy, was with Alcan in Montreal, but changed direction establishing a boutique headhunting firm in Calgary, O’Callaghan Honey McKay. This was acquired by Korn/Ferry in 2000 and Mike is now the head of the Korn/Ferry Calgary office.

Scot Honey (P64) joined Unilever Services and Development as a management trainee in the marketing department in 1965. He was promoted to management and after gathering much experience in this international company, left to pursue his personal business interests in 1972. In the next two decades he managed several successful businesses in property, the motor industry and two fast-food outlets. In 1991 he and Stuart Mattinson (P64) acquired Sagit Stockbrokers, which by 2000 had grown to the largest independent Stockbroker in Zimbabwe. A merger with Real Africa Durolink in 2000 followed. In June 2002 he sold his interests in the business and retired in December of the same year. Scot was a Founder Governor of St John's College in Harare where his two sons were educated.A first league hockey player for many years, Scot remains a keen sportsman, playing social tennis with great energy and walking at least 15km a week. The father of very successful Petrean sons, Adrian Hosack (E67) studied at UCT. When the family farm was expropriated in 2002, he moved to Harare where he and his wife were tied up and robbed by three policemen in their Borrowdale home in broad daylight in March 2003. Thankfully neither was injured. He now lives in Ndola and works for Quantum Minerals handling all the maintenance and construction of new housing. Adrian recently helped build the border post into the Congo from Zambia and built 600 homes for the employees of a new mine there.

Roger Housden (M67) wrote in February 2002: "I initially worked for Ronald Watson (Auctioneers and Estate Agents) and then came to the UK on holiday in '68. I was offered a job with a firm of Chartered Surveyors in the City, where I did my initial training. In 1973 I joined an entrepreneur developing starter units for small businesses. In 1974 we diversified into importing wine to the UK from France and Germany which led us into Wine Bars and Business Catering in the '80s. The wine and food interests have now been disposed of and I run the commercial property business from my home in Winchester. I have been married to Sarah for 22 years and my interests are golf, wine and my dogs which are Bearded Collies. In the '80s we competed at all the Championship Dog Shows and had reasonable success. One of the dogs being Reserve Champion at Crufts, as well as being an outright Champion" Email .

The ever unreliable "Frank Source" claims that Roger Humberstone (P66) was " forced to leave Algeria in a hurry by terrorism in 1993" and moved to Tunisia. There he imported John West tinned fish, before moving on to selling Guinness, before having a shot at exporting almond oil to the Body Shop. Nigel Hungerford (P63) lives in Melbourne and wrote in 2002 : "I left Shell Australia in 1994 after 15 years, preceded by 15 years with a number of other mining and oil companies, to become a consulting geophysicist and have had a successful and interesting few years . Simon Hunt (F66) was a Group Captain in the RAF and was awarded the CBE for being o/c helicopters in the Gulf War. He settled in Northallerton, Yorkshire on retiring from the RAF and was a last seen as a helicopter flying instructor at the defence flying school.

Dennis Hutchinson (M62) returned to Zambia on leaving school where he worked in a bank. He then farmed at Lalapanzi and was murdered with his wife and children in his home on 29 December 1978.

It is with great sadness that we record the sudden November 2003 death from a heart attack of Ivan Jacklin (E63 & Staff 73-82) He started his working life "in the Ministry of Agriculture doing soil surveys." He was on the staff at Peterhouse from 1973 -1982 and was the Housemaster Grinham. He then taught at Shiplake College, Henley-on-Thames, England for many years. He and his wife Candy hosted numerous Petrean cricket matches and the Peterhouse First XI on their 1998 tour to England. Ivan wrotes: "I went to the D.S.G in Grahamstown where I taught maths, chemistry and produced a school play. We came over to England to Shiplake College. I have been here ever since. I was appointed Head of the Chemistry Department in 1988; Housemaster of Everett house in 1993. I retired as Housemaster in June 1999 and was appointed Director of Activities. We still have our interest in Drama and are involved with the cultural life at Shiplake. We have a small cottage in North Devon which we escape to, as a sort of Peterhaven, whenever we can. Dr Martin Jackson (G65) After knocking around remote parts of southern Africa as a field geologist, Martin obtained a PhD in geology at UCT in 1976, after which he lectured at the University of Natal for four years. Since then, he has been living in Austin, Texas, where he is a senior research scientist at the University of Texas. Laurie Jeffrey (G66) went to Ecole Hotelier, the famous Hotel School in Lausanne, Switzerland after Peterhouse. He graduated second in his class even though the tuition was excusively in French. This was quite an achievement since our spy 'Frank Source' recalls that Laurie never passed O level French, despite several attempts! Howard Johnson (E63) Our spy "Frank Source" reported in June 2002 that : "He has almost completed the College MBA in Wine Business Management at the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester having retired from legal practice in Gloucester, and plans to start his own business with his new found skills. Iain Kay (F66) was much in the news as a result of the 2000 invasions of his Wedza farm and subsequent assaults which required hospital treatment from which he has now recovered. His wife Kerry, who has worked tirelessly for the AIDS program for several years, was in the USA when the incidents happened. He was unfortunately back in the news fighting a succesful court case to retain possession of his farm. In 2001 Iain and Kerry led the Zimbabwe Civic Society Human Rights delegation to CHOGM in Brisbane Australia.

Warwick Keene (G63) left in '63 and went to Oriel. Ten days after UDI his parents left for Johannesburg, where he finished his schooling and was articled to a firm of lawyers in Pretoria, later moving to Johannesburg. He then went into advertising, first in Joburg and then at Y&R in London, before returning to Johannesburg where he spent 25 very happy and entirely pointless years in various ad agencies. In 1994 he started his own medical information business, which he ran until he emigrated to Brisbane in 2002, where he currently runs serviced offices with two partners. Lives at Sanctuary Cove on the Gold coast and wishes he could play better golf to a better handicap than the mid-teens. Don Keith (M64) spent time on leaving school at language school and university in Munich. He then worked for Wiggins Teape, paper manufacturers, with their European marketing division before moving to the USA in 1971. In 1980 Don founded his own importing and distribution company which became allied to his current venture. He is the President of North America's only remaining hand manufacturer of silver flatware and holloware and pewterware, Old Newbury Crafters. They specialize in table silver, gifts and awards and supply state gifts to the US Government for recipients who have included the Pope and Queen Elizabeth II. Dr Alan Kemp (G62) was the Head Curator, Birds at the Transvaal Museum and has been working on hornbills and raptors for many years. He wrote in 2001: "At the moment I've been promoted into management, a change that came about with various other changes in the museum service of South Africa. I do little bird research now, although in the past year have been lucky enough to visit Australia, Uganda and Thailand to attend conferences. In July, my wife Meg (also a biologist) and I are making a major break, taking early retirement and planning to work together on whatever bird-related projects we can find".

I then moved to Bahrain Airport Services as their Senior Manager Catering producing an average of 15,000 meals per day! Professor Andy Manson (F66) wrote in December 2006: " I completed a Ph.D at UCT in History and taught/researched at Natal, and Wits Universities (briefly) before spending 22 years at what is now the University of North-West (Mafikeng Campus) finally as Professor and head of department. I spent a three year spell living in Copenhagen, Denmark, in between. I took early retirement in 2005, and have settled in a village called Bathurst, in the Eastern Cape, where I am a freelance writer and researcher, and spend a not inconsiderable amount of my time playing golf and fishing. Dr Denzil Miller (E69) got an MSc from the University of Natal and a PhD from UCT. Despite this, Denzil was still able to keep his Antarctic research interests going and was the seventh recipient of the South African Antarctic Medal (in gold) for his contribution to Antarctic science and resource management. He is now working in Hobart, Tasmania as CEO of the 31-nation Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources, the largest international organization domiciled in Australia. Dr Pat Morton (P67), who had the rare distinction at school of being awarded colours in all four major sports and squash, is a consultant radiologist in Cape Town and the senior partner in the largest private radiology practice there. He did his MB.ChB at Edinburgh University, which he represented at cricket and hockey for most of his student years. He also played cricket for Scottish Universities. Pat specialised in radiology at Groote Schuur Hospital and took his fellowship in 1979. He is married with a teenage daughter.

Tony Odendaal (66) was Chief Hygiene and Administrative Officer for the City of Mutare until 1981 when he moved to the South African Defence force with the rank of captain and ended up in 1990 as a Lt Colonel and Staff Officer Logistics setting up and running of a command stores organisation for the newly created SA Medical Service command in the Eastern Cape. He was then Systems Manager for the COMED Integrated Medical Logistic System in the South African National Dept of Health and is now a principal of Mushonga Logistics Consultants. Anthony Osborne (E63) was a Canon of Hereford Cathedral for many years then a Team Rector of a very large parish in Staffordshire which he found quite a change from rural Herefordshire. I am Rector of 3 parishes and we are really enjoying life and its opportunities. Colin Parkes (M69) who must have been one of the biggest and strongest prop forwards ever to have played rugby for Peterhouse, died of a heart attack in England in February 1997.

Hugh Parkes (M66) (pictured in 1999) who studied at Exeter University and worked as a chartered accountant and senior banker, is a director of "The Q Alliance" in Melbourne,and a member of the IT Governance Board (ISACA) based in the US. Matthias Pascall (E68) who did an MBA at UCT years ago, was with a Canadian mining exploration company but is now reported to be back in South Africa.

Philip Pascall (E65) lives in Perth, Western Australia. He graduated from Sussex University in England with an honours degree in Control Engineering, and then completed an MBA at the University of Capetown. He has worked in general management positions in the mining industry since 1977 in South Africa with RTZ and E.L. Bateman and since 1981, in Australia. He was the Project Manager of the Argyle Diamond Project and then, as Executive Chairman and part owner of Nedpac Engineering between 1982 and 1990. He is CEO of First Quantum Minerals is a growing mining and metals company whose operations in Zambia include the Bwana Mkubwa SX/EW facility and sulphuric acid plants and Kansanshi open pit copper-gold mine and strategic investments in the Nkana and Mufulira mines in Zambia. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, First Quantum operates the 100% owned Lonshi open pit copper mine which provides oxide copper ore for processing at Bwana Mkubwa, a 95% interest in the Frontier copper deposit, and a 65% interest in the Kolwezi copper-cobalt tailings project.

Richard (Rodda)-Pascall (E67) lived near Penzance in Cornwall for some years after a serious skiing accident. He returned to Zimbabwe where he owns the world renowned wildlife conservancy, Gourlays Farm, with 30 black rhino resident. Dr Mike Patton (P63) worked in the '70s at Rietvlei Mission Hospital in the Transkei doing medical missionary work and was last sighted working as a medical doctor in South Africa.

Chris Paterson (P65) llives with his wife, Gill in a arts and crafts house in the Berkshire countryside in England. He retired as Chairman of Macmillan Education early in 2008 after a career of 37 years with Macmillan in which he developed an overseas organisation of over 25 local publishing companies. He is now engaged in Emerging Markets Media Consultancy and his work takes him to China on a regular basis. In his spare time he is doing a one day a week postgraduate certificate in architectural history at Oxford. He remains a governor of Peterhouse and a frequent visitor to Zimbabwe. Dr Nick Patterson (E66) qualified as a medical doctor and was based at Umtali Hospital when he was tragically killed in a car crash in 1976 aged 27.

Tim Peech (M65) had a most distinguished school career culminating as Head of Malvern for the last five terms of his stay and as Head of School. After studying agriculture in the USA he farmed next to the family farm, Waterloo. He was murdered in July 1978 "killed by the war seeking peace."

Vaughan Peacock (66) joined Bristow Helicopters in England after a spell with Central African Airways. He flew helicopters on the North Sea and a not-to-be-repeated tour in Nigeria. Vaughan, who is married with two sons, returned to Africa in 1980 and has been with Court Helicopters ever since living in Durban.

Peter Pearson (M67) wrote in 2005 :"Jim Macray (M66), Peter Latz (M66) and I toured the South Island of New Zealand earlier this year following the Lions/All Blacks rugby tour. I have spent a fantastic 30 years in NZ and currently live in Auckland with my wife Andrina. My grown up son and daughter drop in from time to time when they are in the country. Rupert Pennant-Rea (E65) has had a varied career as economist, journalist, central banker and businessman. He has degrees in economics from Trinity College, Dublin and the University of Manchester. He has been Editor of The Economist and Deputy Governor of the Bank of England. He is chairman of Henderson Group plc and on the board of British American Tobacco, Sherritt International, Gold Fields Ltd, First Quantum Minerals and various other public and private companies. Martin Pereira (G67) farmed in Zimbabwe across the road from Peterhouse and was on the receiving end of protracted harassment by trespassers in 2001. Click here for press report . Stowe ("Spanner") Philp (G65) who farmed at Concession, died on 5 July 2002 after fighting cancer for 18 months.

Ivor Phillips (F65) lives in in Copthorne,West Sussex and was compulsorily retired as a British Airways 747-400 Captain on turning 55. At one stage in his career he flew the private aircraft of Prince Mohamed Fahad in Saudi Arabia. The aging body finally called it a day a few years ago, after a couple of decades of more serious rugby than might perhaps have been sensible and he is now a V-P and official "Old Fart" of his club in Dorking. Michael J Phillips who did sterling service over many years as the Chairman of the Petrean Society in UK sadly died of cancer in November 2000. Professor Ian Phimister (G67) who was a Professor and Head of the Department of Economic History at UCT was appointed Professor of International History at Sheffield University in England in 2001. He specialises on the history of Central and Southern Africa, and on British expansion and investment overseas in the nineteenth- and twentieth- centuries. He has published widely including a history of the Labour Movement in Zimbabwe 1900-97 and an economic and social history of Zimbabwe, 1890-1948. Email .

We are sad to report the death in 2009 of Nic Pickard (M59) who will be long remembered as a member of the band Holy Black doing vocals, guitar, keyboards & trumpet.  He wrote an African rock opera "Nongawuza" with John McBeth before moving to Australia where Holy Black was in residence for a year at Whiskey-A-Go-Go, reputedly the biggest night club in the southern hemisphere. Nic returned to Salisbury and in additon to be very active at REPS became a successful producer, later running a studio of his own in Johannesburg, writing jingles and television theme music.

John Pilling lives in Västerås, Sweden and is Vice President, Export Sales, for ABB Utilities Sweden. He wrote in July 2003: "Still hanging in at ABB in Sweden after a turbulent year with many lay-offs. 'Now working mostly with export sales to Africa. This is written in June which is summer time in Northern Europe - you can work until 5pm and still have time for 18 holes of golf! We have 9 courses to choose from within 30 minutes of our home - not bad for a little city of 125,000 people. Come and visit us if you're in this neck of the woods. We're only a Ryan Air hop from Stanstead. We also have a winter chalet in Duved with some of the best skiing in Sweden. More recently he has been running his father's building business in Cape Town and is now reportedly involved in tourism. His wife Sue is in a senior position with Air Malaysia in Cape Town.

Mike Pryke (P67) is married with two daughters and has lived in Jo'burg since 1978. He was MD of First Bowring Insurance Brokers and after 15 years joined First Rand Bank as Director of Bancassurance.

Terence Reeves (F62) got a BSc in Economics from London University before changing tack and studying dentistry at Birmingham University.

David Reid (P62) retired as a Lt Colonel in the Royal Engineers and received a commendation for his work in the Falklands war, then joined a brewery firm in Cardiff in 1989 as their Estates Manager. He wrote in 2007:"I retired from this post in 2001 to concentrate on travel, golf and my family. I have 2 boys - one married with a son, the other due to marry in June this year. My travel has included 3 trips to RSA and one to Zambia. Alas, none to Zimbabwe. I was invited to captain my Golf Club in its Centenary Year - a real honour and privilege and one I really enjoyed. My golf was going well with a single figure handicap. However, I have struggled for the last year and not been 100%. At last the medical experts believe I have an immune problem which will need managing and curtail some of my activities. We shall see."Email .

J L Reid (G69) has worked on the mines in the Copperbelt in Zambia since 1975. He has spent many years in a wheelchair as a result of a motor accident.

Lance Reynolds (F59) a founder of the school, is married with 5 children and lives in Harare "where he operates companies involved in property and tourism".

Ian Richardson (P66) has lived in Australia since 1993.

Gavin Richardson (P68) was tragically killed in a car accident a few weeks after he left school.

Michael Robertson (P66) studied civil engineering at Bristol University and subsequently worked in Harare. He is married and has four grown up kids. Mike moved to RSA in 1984 and was a director of a large consulting engineering company. He emigrated to Vancouver, Canada in 1996 where he continues to work as a specialist consulting engineer / senior project manager on mining and hydroelectric power developments worldwide. Mike writes: "No more emigration - ever ! We have now got to the stage that we call Vancouver home despite the very strong pull of family, friends and a lifetime of conditioning in Africa."

Nick Roditi (F63) "a founder of Founders" has moved on from the days when he was a trainee investment manager at Schroders. He is clearly doing something right since he was reported in 1997 in The Daily Telegraph "to be the highest paid man in Britain last year, with earnings of more than £80 million." He launched a £31.5 million takeover bid for the tea-to-wheelbarrows group Plantations and General Investments and nominated Rupert Pennant-Rea (E65) to the board of directors. The Daily Telegraph also reported that Nick "shies away from the limelight and works from a small office in Hampstead, north London. He lives nearby with his wife Pamela and their son. Nick is definitely not a dilettante" says a friend "he does not throw his money around. Just to look at him you could not tell he was a very rich man at all." Nick's career has included managing George Soros' Quota and Quantum hedge funds from which he resigned in 2000.

Ian Rodwell (F67) joined the RAF at the RAF College, Cranwell. He returned to Rhodesia in 1971 and obtained his civil aviation licence before joining the RRAFVR in 1974 as a pilot on 3 Sqn and was awarded the MFC. At the same time he flew the DC8 with Affretair (Jack Malloch's sanction busting airline) which was a lot of fun. At independence he flew for Saudia living in Jeddah and in 1987 moved to Hong Kong with Cathay Pacific Airways, where he is now the Chief Pilot flying the B747-400. They normally retire all pilots at 55, but Ian has been given a 2 year extension, which is great as his younger children are still at boarding school in UK. Ian has a house in the south of France and will probably settle there when he finishes at Cathay. Email .

He wrote in 2006 : "Although I officially retired in 1998 I have been actively involved in my own consulting business which deals with Turnaround Management situations for companies that are having financial and management difficulties. Stewart Roper (M65) finished his schooling at Milton, then studied dentistry at Guy's Hospital in London 1966-71. He practised in Harare until 1982, where the Snells were among his patients. He moved to the Orange Free State for 5 years and then to the UK, working in Gloucester and Swindon all the while living in Stroud. An injury in a road accident forced Stu's early retirement from dentistry in 1998. He then did a one year course at the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester and currently has part time job there. John "Evan" Sheppard (P64) left Zimbabwe in 1964 to finished his education in the UK and Canada. He married a Canadiian, had a son and moved around the world over the years, including the UK, Canada, Hong Kong, Poland and a 4 year stint in Japan. He settled in Raleigh, North Carolina working for a Canadian/American telecommunication company as a Director for their wireless unit. Murray Somerville (M65) who studied at Oxford University, Munich and in New York at the School of Sacred Music in the Union Theology Seminary was the Cathedral Musician at the Cathedral Church of St Luke in Florida, where he conducted the Winter Park Bach Festival. He has performed organ recitals on three continents, and conducted major symphony orchestras. He is in demand as a workshop leader and guest choral conductor and in 1987 he was named an Associate of the Royal School of Church Music for his services to church music. Murray is now the Organist and Choirmaster at Harvard University. He and his wife, who is also an accomplished musician, visited the school in 1996 and gave splendid organ recital in the chapel. Murray recorded a CD with his choir earlier in 1998 featuring an anthem Ecce Sacerdos Magnus that Hodgy composed in 1960 for the Peterhouse choir. Sir John Southby (E66) (pictured in 1999) who studied electrical engineering at Loughborough University, is now retired, but busier than ever!. He is still very involved in the Milton Keynes business community. He is actively involved in Rotary, being both Club Secretary, and District Secretary for Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire & Buckinghamshire. He is a Non-Executive Director at Milton Keynes General Hospital. He is currently Honourary President of the Large Employers Association, and on both the Theatre and Gallery Committees which run the Milton Keynes Theatre and Art gallery. Professor David Taube (F66) who studied at both Cambridge and Oxford Universities, is married with two children. David is one of Europe's leading renal physicians and has pioneered models of renal medicine and transplanation as head of the renal teams at St Mary's Hospital and The Hammersmith Hospital in London where he leads the largest renal and transplant unit in the UK and Europe. He has published over 110 peer-reviewed papers on transplanation and has been appointed Professor of Transplant Medicine by Imperial College, London.

Dr Peter Thom (62) wrote in 2005: "I studied medicine in Aberdeen, Scotland. After a brief sojourn in General Practice I branched out into Occupational Health and worked for Unilever in the UK until my retirement in 2001. Approx. a year or so ago I found myself sitting next to someone with a Rhodesian accent in our local Yacht Club in Lymington on the south coast of England and, amazingly, it was Mike Bardwell of the same era. John Trouncer (M61) lives in Dubbo, New South Wales and previously ran the Narromine Crop Centre. Rhodes Garwen ran into John in Dubbo quite by accident in 1998 for the first time in 35 years after 12 years together at Eagle and Peterhouse. We were delighted to hear that John hadn't changed a bit.

David Wakefield (P67) is still managing to hold on to his farming operation in Concession, where he runs a big dairy herd. He says that he doesn't know what he'll do if the farm is 'lost' to the illegal invaders.

Christopher Waldschutz (G63)acquired his life long passion, flying, through being involved in the Gliding Club at Peterhouse. Talking of passions, an even more stimulating experience in his education seems to have been the visit to Peterhouse by the movie starlet Dana Winter, who was Howard Hughes' girlfriend at the time and co-starred in a film with Elvis Presley. The adolescent testosterone levels at monastic Peterhouse obviously soared off the scale - and he's still talking about it 40+ years later! He went to McGill University, Montreal, Canada in 1963 and in 1966 joined the Irving group in Saint John as a pilot. Apart from a stint in the 1970s helping out on the family farm in Zimbabwe, he has lived in Saint John where he is on the Saint John Common Council. Alan Watkins (E63) is the Chairman of the Gauteng Branch of the Petrean Society, which is thriving due in no small measure to Alan's dedication and enthusiasm. He remarried a widow with a son and a daughter in 1992 after the death of his first wife thereby also acquiring years of involvment in schoolboy rowing. Another love of his life is his 1964 3.8 Mk2 Jaguar which he takes to Concours Days. Brian Watkins (E64) will be remembered as one of the leading all round Peterhouse sportsmen of the 1960s and went on to play hockey for Rhodesia.. He completed his schooling in Mutare, qualified as a CA in Harare and is a partner in an accounting firm in Swaziland. Paul Watkins (E65) completed his schooling in Mutare. He lost the lower part of his left leg to an anti personnel mine while doing national service, something that didn't stop him taking up hockey and moving from goal keeper to centre half! His elder brother Alan (E63), who himself lost the lower part of his left leg in a motor bike accident in 1996, was greeted by Paul while being lifted from the CASEVAC helicopter with the unforgettable comment "We seem to be running out of left legs in this family!" [Webmaster - they obviously made those Watkins tough as Alan's scouts dragged him on a 17 km nature hike and caving.] Paul qualified as Durban University as a Civil Engineer and worked on the Henry Hallam Dam near Harare. He then emigrated to Australia with his family where he has his own company his own business printing bar code labels in Toowoomba, Queensland which looks and feels very much like the tobacco growing parts of Zimbabwe.

Malcolm Webb (F66) was the Officer-in-Charge of the Salvation Army in Malawi, when we last heard from him.

Peter Wells (F66) did a BSc(Mech) and an MBA at Wits, worked for a Consulting Engineering company in South Africa and became one of Jehovah's Witnesses. He married Lindsay McLuckie from Marandellas before moving to San Francisco, California in 1979 He wrote in 2006:"The move had a surprise benefit - I had no more of the allergies that always bothered me in Africa. Worked for a Consulting Engineering company there for a while, then took up flying full time. Had 3 children, who now all live in California. Took up snow boarding and surfing which are my favorite sports. Worked my way up as a corporate pilot, recently flying Gulfstream and Boeing Business Jets all over the world. Most recently I have been flying for Google. Some of the places I have been in addition to Europe and the Americas are Vietnam, China, Taiwan and Russia, which has been interesting. The trouble with jets is they go away from home, and the bigger they are, the further they go, and the longer they stay away. Got tired of too much of this and have semi-retired, I do some flying as a back-up pilot when others are in training or on vacation. Some interesting people I have flown in addition to the Google founders Larry Page and Sergei Brin and CEO Eric Schmidt are: Al Gore, Barbara Bush, Colin Powell (interesting dealing with Secret Service on those), Caroll Shelby (car designer) and Joe Montana (football player). I now keep busy managing my investments (hoping I can remain semi-retired) and as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. I go to Hawaii on vacation every year and am thinking about moving there. "Email .

David Wheeler (G67) was owner of Calgary Farm at Mazowe and it was good to hear from him after the UK Sunday Times reported on 4 February 2001 that he had been "beaten almost to death by Zanu-PF war veterans." He now lives in the UK. Email .

Rob Wilkinson (M65) did postgraduate studies at the LSE and then worked for The International Institute for Strategic Studies as their Africa specialist writing research papers, articles and a couple of books, as well as dealing with the media. He and his family then spent 26 years around the world - London, Kenya, Barbados, Scotland, Fiji - as Rob's wife was with the UK Overseas DevelopmentAdministration. They now live in Emsworth, Hampshire in a house with a boat mooring at the bottom of the garden from where they make forays into Chichester Harbour and to the Isle of Wight. John Williams (M65) is a marketing manager of abrasive products in Johannesburg. He and Alan Watkins (E63) met up some time ago by chance while doing maintenance on rowing boats.

We were sadden to learn of the death of Marize Williams, the wife of Bob and mother of Michael (M63) and Chris (M68). Marize died of a heart attack in Florida over Christmas 2001, while on holiday with her family. She was a keen supporter of the school over many years and was a renowned teacher in Harare. Her husband, Dr N A F (Bob) Williams was Chairman of the Board of Governors for many years and the Patron of Peterhouse.

Frank Willoughby (M69) died in England in the early '90s.

Michael Williams (M63) who was Peterhouse's second Rhodes Scholar, runs his own import/export business in Los Angeles.

Jeremy Willis (G64) who is remembered for his enthusiastic membership of the jazz band and very considerable artistic talents, died in 1982.

Rob Wilson (P69) has lived in Adelaide, South Australia for over 20 years and runs the Australian agency of Duncan Fearnley cricket equipment.

Stuart Wilson (G64) wrote in February 2003: "I arrived in London in January '65 and drifted through strange and varied employment until going to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in the winter of '67 - Left in 1970 to become a professional actor - Worked extensively in British theatre - Stints in Repertory, Royal Shakespeare Co, Royal Court, West End, Tours, many London Fringe Theatres, etc and numerous TV productions - Classic series such as Anna Karenina, the Pallisers, I Claudius, Jewel in the Crown, among many others - Got bored at the end of the '80's, relocated to Los Angeles, got married, and started from scratch all over again at the age of 40 - Badly unemployed for a year or so, then landed the part of the Villain in Lethal Weapon 3 - Many movies since then, good, bad and indifferent - Death and the Maiden, The Mask of Zorro, Age of Innocence, No Escape, The Luzhin Defence, among them. Relocated back to London three years ago. Still married, three children, always broke - Just finished playing Antony in Antony & Cleopatra for the Royal Shakespeare Co." He wrote in June 2004: " I'm filming in New Zealand at present - A Vampire movie - Long teeth & blue contact lenses - You can hear Fred Snell turning in his grave as I write - He always said I'd come to a bad end!" Nick Wilton (G64) went to Ecole Hoteliere in Switzerland. He went on to manage the Compleat Angler in Walton on Thames in England and then managed his own restaurant in Suffolk. He bought and managed a restaurant in Nice and then emigrated to Perth, Australia where he has owned and managed restaurants. He is back in Oz in 2008, after a stint in Zambia working at Philip Pascall's operation on the Zambezi - The Royal Zambezi Lodge. Nick was agreeably surprised by what he found in Zambia but has returned to Nannu, WA to set up a restaurant, which is naturally called Wiltons. Email .

Noel Woollacott (P66) studied at the S A Forestry College at George, where he was awarded the Schlich Memorial Gold Medal before working for the Rhodesian Forestry Commission. He died in a car accident in 1971.

Christopher Wright (G63), works for the government in Adelaide as a hydrologist, specialising in flood warnings on the Murray catchment. He is married to Patricia and they have three grown up children.

Barton Woolfe (68) has been described as Zimbabwe’s most prolific playwright. "Frank Source" claims that: "Bart has sixteen of his own plays published and performed mostly in the African subcontinent where he was responsible for running theatre workshops based on human rights and minimalism. His work has been seen in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, Namibia and South Africa, as well as the plays travelling as wide as to Britain and America. He is a founder of the Zimbabwe Writers Union as well as the Zimbabwe Film Producers Association.".

Duncan Wyllie (E63) is married and lives in Vancouver. He is a consulting mining engineer and is the principal of Wyllie and Norrish, which specialises in rock engineering. Duncan is the author of a very successful book "Foundations on Rock" which has now run into its second edition and has been well received. It's a practical reference book describing current engineering practice in the investigation, design and construction of foundations in rock.

Richard Wyllie (E66) lives in West Vancouver, British Columbia and is the CEO of Morph Works Limited, a software development company. richardw@portal.ca

Stuart Yates (M68) got a BSc in computer science and worked with A.E and C I in Johannesburg. He went back to University in 1979 to read Zoology, then worked as a stockbroker and is now with the Rand Merchant Bank in Johannesburg.

Ian Young (P65) was last sighted working as an accountant in Johannesburg.

Andre van Zyl (M) is an artist in Los Angeles.

L M Zinyama (M69) was in the Geography Department at UZ.
