PETERHOUSE
BOYS' SCHOOL
Dear
Parents and Guardians
We have had a good start to our term. The D Block appear to have settled well, I thank Mr Paul Davis and his duty staff for their efforts in this regard. Because of the fuel crisis the scheduled D Block Parent / Teachers meeting has been postponed until Saturday the 5th of April.
I attended the School Prefects Leadership and Team Building Course at Nyanga before term started and was most impressed with our boys performance. I look forward to working closely with our Head of School, Aaron Denenga, and his team of Prefects during this year.
Staff appointments
I am pleased to welcome the following members of staff: Mrs Mabel Bettin, who replaces Mrs Kate Sinclair in our Secretarial Studies Department. Mr Robert Chiminya from Midlands Christian College to teach Physics. Mrs Sue Heathcote to teach IT. Mr Liberty Hove from Zimsec to teach English. Mr Ishmael Mazambani from Bernard Mziki to teach History and Geography. Mrs Takudzwa Mutuke from Ellis Robins to teach Shona, Divinity and History. Ms Catriona Taylor who is my new secretary and Sister Jane Walker who takes over as Head of our Sanatorium.
Theft - "Zero Tolerance"
Since my arrival I have exercised a "zero tolerance" policy on theft. I have made this quite clear to boys and parents alike. Sadly several parents have had to withdraw their sons from Peterhouse for stealing. I would ask you to spend time this weekend discussing this issue with your son. It seems that some have little regard for their own possessions and consequently no regard or respect for the possessions of others.
Sadly we live in an environment where people have little regard for one another or their possessions!
Public Examinations at Peterhouse
I would like to thank Mr David Shaw, our Director of Studies, for compiling the paper on public examinations at Peterhouse. This document should be used as a reference for the future; please keep it and refer to it. If in doubt please contact Mr Shaw.
International Examination Results
The Cambridge results have arrived, they are outstanding. Congratulations to our A Level teaching staff. We had a 97.3% pass rate for all subjects. (I am told that the girls had a 100% pass rate!)
At AS, although the pass rate was down on 2001, we had a pass rate of 81% of all subjects taken.
The uncertainty and switch from one Board to another could account for this drop.
At IGCSE our pass rate is down but we await the Zimsec O Level results to boost the percentage. To be fair, last year was a very difficult year from a political point of view; we had to switch back and forward between Examining Bodies; we had a large repeat class and a five year O Level class. I will release our final statistics when they are available.

Pocket money
Inflation is such that $ 2500 is no longer a realistic amount for pocket money for the term. I have decided to increase the amount to $ 10 000. Please ensure that your son returns with a cheque for the difference on Monday; it should be handed to the Housemaster who will forward it to the School Office. If you do not send the cheque your son will not be able to shop at the Tuck shop when his money is finished in the Bank.
Prescriptions and other medical expenses
Medical expenses of over $ 5000 will be charged if and when they occur. An account with the Prescription Fee will be sent to parents. Parents will have 30 days to settle the account.
Changes to calendar
Trinity Term begins on Monday the 12th of May and not Wednesday 7th of May.
Yours sincerely
