PETERHOUSE
BOYS' SCHOOL
Dear
Parents and Guardians
Needless to say this has been a very difficult and traumatic term for many of our boys, but once again I am strengthened by the reliance of those in our care - we have had a successful start to our term!
New Staff
We welcome Mr. Chibowora who joins us to teach Biology. We welcome, too, Mr. Chikobvu who will teach Geography this term. Two Bindura University students will complete their practical teaching exercise here this term - Mr Chinodyaruswa and Mr Ngwenya.Vuli Ndiweni has been appointed Junior Master for this term - he is waiting to go to UCT next year to study Actuarial Science.
Deputy Director of Studies and Cultural Co-ordinator
I congratulate Mr. A. Griggs on his appointment - he will, I know, be of great assistance to Mr. Shaw and help maintain a balance of cultural and sporting activities in the School.
Head of Science
Congratulations to Mr. Patrick Fantiso who has been appointed Head of Science for a 12 month period.
Housemasters' Representative
I look forward to working closely with Mr. Paul Davis who will liase between the Housemasters and the Rector.
ACADEMIC MATTERS
This will be a very hectic term for A Block who write IGCSE and some O level examinations; Vth form, who write AS level and VI form who complete their studies at A level.
VI Form pupils have a letter concerning Study Leave. Parents of A level candidates must read it carefully and comply with its requests.
As we are writing both international and Zimsec Examinations there will be clashes. Certain examinations will need to be re-scheduled - this will be necessary in all CHISZ schools. There is a real possibility that pupils at other centres will write the same examination at different times. It will be possible to compromise examination security by using cell phones. Boys must not return to school with cell phones after the mid-term break - Monday 21st October. Cell phones found at school will be confiscated and returned at the end of term.
Mathematics Olympiad
Congratulations to Simbarashe Chinyowa, Rufaro Mapanda, Brenda Mataka and Maxwell Rugonye on achieving B+ grades in the Olympiad and so gaining entry to round 2.
Alex Whitcomb (C Block) won the Mashonaland East, Zimpost Letter Writing Competition.- he wins $5000.00 and several First day CoverStamps. Well done.
FINANCIAL MATTERS
All parents are reminded that school fees must be paid in full before pupils return at the start of each term. Unfortunately in the present economic climate this is essential so that the school can meet its own financial obligations. We do appreciate that parents have equal problems, and where possible, will try and assist with arrangements acceptable to both parties. However, such arrangements must be made with us in advance of each term and mutually agreed. Regrettably we cannot afford to keep pupils at school who have either not paid or who have large amounts outstanding and we will have no option but to return them home where this occurs.
We are also receiving an increased number of dishonoured cheques, this is again unacceptable, and in future where a cheque is dishonoured we will require it to be replaced immediately by cash or a bank cheque and failure to do so after one request will result in the pupil being returned home.
Sadly, because of the situation in the country, some parents have had to give 'provisional' notice for the end of this term. I am sorry that this has been necessary.
Please let me know if you have to go firm on your 'notice' - it will help me plan more effectively for next year. Please contact me directly - I will try to help parents where possible.
Gosho Park
Wild life expert Mr. Peter Ginn, who started Gosho Park in 1984, has kindly agreed to Chair a Gosho Park Committee. He has given us the opportunity to sell his 2003 Calendar - money from the sale of this calendar has been earmarked for Gosho Park.
Your son will come home with a calendar and an order form. If you do not want the Calendar please send it back to school - if you want it, send $200.00, and if you want more, please return a completed Order Form.
Vth Form Leadership - Team Building Course
My thanks to Mr. Bernie Cragg, Mr. Ashley Denman and Prefects for organizing and helping to co-ordinate this event. It proved to be a highly successful exercise.
