PETERHOUSE
BOYS' SCHOOL
Dear
Parents and Guardians
We have had a positive and successful start to the term. Of obvious concern to parents is the banning of Foreign Examinations by the Ministry of Education. It comes at a time when moral is low, when our economy is in a poor state and when many are being faced with eviction from their homes and farms. In my attached letter, on examinations, I have tried to reassure you that we can and will manage this problem in a way that it will not disadvantage those writing examinations this year. Negotiations are in progress to seek permission to review the decision. I cannot stress enough that now is the time for clear thinking - a time when we consider more carefully what we say and what we may hear.
I am confident that our way forward is a positive one, just look at the collective efforts of staff and your children and the successes they constantly achieve! With faith, we will be a better, stronger and more resilient school for the future.
World Debating Championships - Michaelhouse April 2002
Mrs C Zaayman accompanied a group of four pupils to Natal for the World Debating Championships. They fared well against very strong opposition. In congratulating the team mention must be made of Mu Kupara, placed 25 out of 60 world class debaters. I thank Mrs. Zaayman, Mr Denman, Mrs Lousada and the Australian Ambassador for making the trip possible.
Pan African Maths Olympiad - Pretoria - South Africa
Congratulations to Rodwell Mupambirei who won a Bronze Medal at the 12th Pan Africa Mathematics Olympiad during the school holiday period.
Careers
My thanks to Ms Mansfield for arranging a full programme of careers talks for this term. I was very happy to meet representatives, from three Melbourne Universities, who confirmed that our pupils would be accepted into Australian Universities 'no matter which "logo" appears on examination certificates'.

Library
Many thanks to Mr & Mrs Negri for their donation of a year's subscription to SA Sports Illustrated: this is much appreciated. Many thanks, too, to Tiggy Bawden for donating one of her jazzy prints to the Library. This has now been framed and hangs on the granite wall near the entrance to the Reading Room.

Medicines
All medicines will in future be kept in the Sanatorium. Vitamin tablets may be left with Housemasters but no boy may have any tablets in his locker, or on his person, in the future.

Yours sincerely
