PETERHOUSE BOYS' SCHOOL

RECTOR'S NEWSLETTER - JULY 2002

Dear Parents and Guardians

Examinations

Thank you for returning the completed Examination Questionnaires after the mid-term break - we had a 77% return in both schools. The results of the survey are as follows:-

4% were 'spoilt' by parents listing combinations.

I must reiterate that it is our hope to offer a choice of both examinations that will best accommodate the needs of our pupils.

1. MATTERS ACADEMIC

Mark Orders

Although still in its infancy, I am pleased with the newly introduced Academic Tutor system. I thank Mr Shaw for implementing the system and all staff who act as Academic Tutors. They will write a report on the academic progress of your son during the term.

Examination Entries

We will shortly be sending accounts to parents of pupils in A Block and above for their Cambridge examinations. These charges will be in Sterling and should be paid either to our accounts department or directly into our FCA, details of which will be enclosed with the itemized statement. Prompt payment will be necessary for us to pay Cambridge. In addition to these examination fees owed to Cambridge, you have already been charged (last term) a small amount in Z$ to cover stationery and courier charges.

END OF TERM

Please note carefully that term ends at 10.30 a.m. on Tuesday 6th August. There will be a VIth Form Parent/Teacher meeting in the Junior Dining Room at 10.00 a.m.

A full range of activities will take place right up until the end of term - final House Matches take place on Monday afternoon.

Government schools have, I have been told, been asked to break on 1st August by the Minister of Education. We started later than Government Schools - we had permission to do so, and to fulfill the number of school days necessary we can only break on August 6th. The Minister of Education has stated publicly that we can only break on August 6th.

Please do not embarrass me or your son by requesting an early departure - any requests must be made to me and not to your sons Housemaster.

I trust you will have a restful weekend.

Yours sincerely
