PETREAN SOCIETY

The Peterhouse group of Anglican boarding schools has 1,045 students on 3,000 acres at Marondera, Zimbabwe, and comprises Peterhouse Boys', Peterhouse Girls', the Preparatory School, Springvale House, Peterhaven at Nyanga and the 800 acre Gosho Park conservation education project and wildlife sanctuary.

OUT OF SHADOWS

Jason Wallace (F87) has just had his first book published and it will be available as from 4 February 2010. It is called Out of Shadows and is set at a school in Zimbabwe during the 1980s. Dear Parents and Guardians,

VALE

The Peterhouse Community is in shock at the sudden and unexpected death of Mrs Terri Mushiko, wife of Trevor Mushiko, Housemaster of Founders and Senior Master – Pupils. Terri taught Business Studies, Maths and was Director of Sport at Peterhouse Girls. She was an outstanding school mistress, loved and respected by all. She achieved fantastic results in class and on the sports field. May her soul rest in peace. Please remember Trevor, his family and the Matongo family in your prayers.

STAFF APPOINTMENTS

Dr John Bradshaw is the Headmaster of Peterhouse Girls' School on the retirement of Mrs Sue Davidson at the end of 2009. Dr Bradshaw attended Springvale School and Peterhouse, and holds a Ph.D from Cambridge University. He has been a farmer and university lecturer, and for the past seven years he has been Headmaster of Watershed College, near Marondera. We are very fortunate that Sue Davidson has agreed to remain on our staff, and will be teaching mathematics at Peterhouse.

Mr Patrick Fantiso returns to teach Biology ; Miss Bernice Candy to teach English while Mrs Michelle Scott Elliot will teach Biology and Physical Education.

We welcome Mrs Sarah Fynn who will teach Art; Ms Angela Wilde who will teach Music; Mr Hleze Kunju who will teach Music and Drama; Mrs Chipo Marikano who will teach English and Mr Forward Chisenga who will teach IT for a term. Ms Shamiso Whitcomb will help in the Progress Centre.

At the end of last year our Cricket Team travelled to the Eastern Cape where they played three matches – winning one and losing two. Sadly their final game was rained off.

Fishing


Congratulations to Jed Browell who was awarded a Gold Medal for winning the U16 fishing category in the Zimbabwe Zone 6 Tournament at Kariba. The Zimbabwe U16 team won Gold against South Africa and Namibia. Jed was also awarded Zimbabwe and Zone 6 Colours.
Congratulations to Shaylin and Nilan Goven who were chosen to represent Zimbabwe at Bass fishing. Shaylin has been awarded his Zimbabwe Colours.

Swimming

PN Brits represented Zimbabwe at Swimming in Nairobi Kenya from 6 – 11th January. The boys team came 1st in their division, the girls’ team came 6th and Zimbabwe came 2nd out of 11 countries overall. PN Brits came 3rd in the Medley relay, 5th in the 100m breaststroke, 200m breaststroke and Freestyle Relay and 7th in the 50m breaststroke.

Tennis

During the December holidays D Shoko reached the semi-finals of the Zimbabwe New Winners Tournament in Harare. He was also a member of the Zimbabwe U19 Team that toured South Africa. He reached the Singles and Doubles Quarter finals at the Gauteng Junior Open and reached the semi-finals of the singles and the double final of the Gauteng North Junior Championships.

Triathlon

D Rautenbach and M Philp have qualified to represent Zimbabwe at the South African Triathlon Championships that will be held in March.

MT KILIMANJARO EXPEDITION

In 1959, 1960 and 1963 Peterhouse boys summitted the highest mountain in Africa, Mt Kilimanjaro. We are planning to take a group there again in 2011. Any current A Block, or 5th Form boys who would like to be part of this expedition must let Mrs Shoesmith know by the 8th of February 2010.
