Henry
Baugh was a 'joiner' and shown in July 1851 Electoral List as
living in Tyers Street. After he sold the cottage to Peter Goldsmith
there is no further evidence of him in town.
Andrew Wilson was a 'mason' born in Dalkeith Scotland in 1810. He sailed to Portland in 1854 with his wife, Margaret, and their 3 children on board the "Indian Ocean", arriving on the 6th October. Being a mason and living in the cottage in 1855/56 it is possible he is responsable for building the brick section of the cottage. After the sale of the cottage in1856 he moved to allotment 11 in Tyers St. William Blackburne, Agnes Keiller and Frank O'Connell. There is no evidence of their lives in Portland. ![]() Murphy family. Thomas Murphy was a farmer born in Ireland ca 1833. He farmed in the district of Tahara and bought the cottage when he retired from farming. He died in 1919 and the cottage passed to his daughter, Margaret. She did not live in the cottage but rented it out till her death in 1947 when it passed to her niece Jessie Philomena. Upon her death in 1997 the cottage went to her sisters, the twins, Gerte & Patricia. Stephen O'Neill was a labourer born in 1869. He lived in the cottage with his wife, Annie and their 2 sons. Jarrett family. George and Phyllis Jarrett with their 5 children lived in the cottage from 1953. George died in 1964 and as the chldren grew up they moved away but Phyllis remained in the cottage until her death 1990 when her daughter, Patsy Murtagh moved in with Monty Larsson. Patsy passed away in 2005 when the cottage was sold to me, Bob Stone. |
