Seymour Statement (8 Mar 2003)

Someone made the comment that a couple of years ago we'd come to a meet like Seymour & leave with a couple of awards.  Well we've obviously come a long way, because this year the Club's 22 swimmers collected 22 trophies between them.  Individual First place trophies were won by Melissa Laird, David Piper, Andrew Ananievski (again second-claiming to Preston), Amanda Lewis (2), Laura Scardilli (2), Justin Daniels & Daniel Scardilli.  Amanda, Stacey, Simon & Daniel also won the feature event; The Open Club Relay.  Second place trophies were won by Sarah Andrew-Rieper, John O'Dwyer, Rhiannon Lewis & Dean Camenzuli.  Third place trophies were won by David Besford, Simon Kerr, Emily Batterham, Mark Camenzuli, Stacey Batterham & David Piper.  The Sister Act of Jessie & Sarah also took the second place trophy in the Club Pairs, with the Girl Power pairing of Melissa & Laura taking third.  There were also some exceptional swims that resulted in swimmers breaking zero, particularly two of our youngest swimmers, Stephen Lewis & Gavin Kerr, who both performed well above expectations.  (See here for trophy details.)

Spectacular!

Broadford Bulletin (1 Feb 2003)

Another dominating performance!  The water may have been a bit cold but the performances from the 16 swimmers who represented Preston were pretty hot.  Individual Gold medals were won by John O’Dwyer, Stacey Batterham, Melissa Laird, David Piper, Rhiannon Lewis, Andrew Ananievski (again second-claiming to Preston), Jarara McIntyre &, perhaps the most popular of all, Amanda Lewis.  Silver medals were won by Justin Daniels (2), Melissa, David Besford, Dean Camenzuli, John, David P. & the relay team of Emily Batterham, Stacey, Dean & Lauren Camenzuli.  Justin was in line for a 3rd Silver medal when he suffered a painful shoulder injury & had to withdraw from the 100m butterfly.  We certainly wish Justin a speedy recovery with the Club Championships just around the corner.  Bronze medals were won by Andrew, Emily (2), John & Gary O’Dwyer in the Adult-Child relay, Stephen Lewis (winning his first Interclub medal – Congratulations Stephen!), Stacey, Melissa, the Club Pairs relay team of Stacey and Emily, & the relay team of David B. (filling in at the last minute for the injured Justin), David P., Stephen & Andrew.  Adding to this very impressive list of medal winners many swimmers ‘broke zero’.  It is a pity that these exceptional performances don’t earn medals, but it is certainly a credit to the swimmers.  Among these exceptional performances were swims from David B., Lauren (3 times!), Stephen, Jarara, Dean & Rhiannon.  It would be remiss of me to not make one more special mention; Kiah McIntyre was there to support her sister & her Club & wasn’t entered to swim.  However with a couple of swimmers unable to attend it meant that one of the relay teams was short.  So despite not particularly wanting to swim in the cold waters of Broadford, Kiah did the team thing & accepted the responsibility of swimming a leg of the relay to complete the team.  A great example from one of our youngest swimmers, followed up by David B.’s effort on the relay final.  (See here for medal details.)

Go Team!

Yay for Yea! (19 Jan 2003)

What a brilliant start to the new year.  The sun was scorching overhead & Preston swimmers were scorching through the water.  The 12 swimmers who represented the Club at Yea had so much success that it's hard to know where to start.  Individual Gold medals were won by Kiah McIntyre, Jarara McIntyre (2), Stacey Batterham, Lauren Camenzuli, Dean Camenzuli (2) and David Besford.  Kiah and David also brought home Gold in the Club Pairs and "The Four Angels" of Stacey, Kiah, Emily Batterham & Jarara won Gold in the club relay.  We were happy to also welcome back Andrew Ananievski who swam with Preston as a second-claim swimmer to pick up a Gold, two Silvers and a Bronze.  Silver medals were also won by John O'Dwyer (2), David & Dean (2).  Dean, John & Jarara also each won a Bronze medal.  That's 22 medals, including an amazing 11 Gold medals, from the 30 events that the Club contested in a program that contained only 47 events.  As we have become used to seeing, a number of swimmers swam too fast  & "broke zero" which meant they were excluded under the rules of the handicap races.  No medals for those performances but it is great to see our young swimmers improving so much.  There were a few of us that didn't bring back medals, but we can take consolation by having all made finals and from having been a part of a very successful day for the Club.  In fact, every Preston swimmer at the meet swam in the final of the Club relay, which was the final race of the day.  A truly remarkable achievement.  All in all it was a great day for the Club and all involved.  (See here for medal details.)

Happy New Year!

Aggregate Analysis (13 Dec 2002)

The 2002/2003 Club Aggregate 1 has been completed. There were some exceptional performances turned in by some swimmers, particularly Melissa Laird and Dean Camenzuli in the longer events.

Well done swimmers!

Broadmeadows Banter (23 Nov 2002)

The Club continued its impressive run of success at the Annual Broadmeadows Swimming Carnival.  Many of our swimmers' efforts were rewarded with: Gold medals to Sarah Andrew-Rieper (2), Lauren Camenzuli and Melissa Laird & Laura Scardilli in the Club Pairs; Silver medals to Melissa, Jarara McIntyre, Daniel Scardilli & David Piper (Coach); and Bronze medals to Laura (2), Sarah & John O'Dwyer.  As well as the medal winning performances many other swimmers made finals and a number of swimmers just swam too fast which meant they were excluded under the rules of the handicap races.  Congratulations to all swimmers who competed & represented the Club so well both in & out of the water.  (See here for medal details.)

Great effort team!

Werribee Whispers (17 Nov 2002)

The Club was represented by a single swimmer at the Werribee Carnival on Sunday the 17th of November.  John O'Dwyer produced creditable times in all 3 of his swims, with the highlight being a heat winning 46.19sec 50m breaststroke (inside the State Qualifying Time).  (Full Werribee Results.)

Congratulations John!
