Hypocritical Shepparton City Council cast aside a heritage overlay strongly recommended by Heritage Victoria for Parkside Gardens.

Greater Shepparton City Council has a hide as thick as a rhinoceros. On the council's behalf, Mayor Anne McCamish reported (NEWS May 10), that the council is proposing an amendment to its planning scheme to include 138 properties and two precincts of more than 100 individual properties into the heritage overlays of the scheme.
In a hypocritical move, the council recently cast aside a heritage overlay strongly recommended by Heritage Victoria for Parkside Gardens. The sole reason for destroying this beautiful developed park, valued at approximately $6million, is to make an estimated $1million profit from a housing estate. Even a greedy private developer would not be this crazy.
The council has already commenced to decimate this site by the removal of trees. This site will be invaluable as a future green wedge, if nothing else, as the city of Shepparton grows to the North. I implore the citizens of Greater Shepparton to act now if they wish this public vandalism to cease- time is running out!
