Service provision: a proactive approach
Responsibility of Service Provision

All community service organizations and agencies involved in providing parent, family and/or public consumer related services and activities have a responsibility to assure protection of its consumers by providing services that are free from exploitation and harassment.

These services should also directly assist parents, inclusive of those who are parents with disabilities, to identify and address risks, issues and needs that most parents have and, in particular, risks, issues and needs which are unique to some parents with disabilities.

Parents with disabilities are to be encouraged and supported to access the same generic services as other people in the community. They should receive support and education as required, especially education involving topics such as sexuality, personal relationship issues, and parenting skills.

Disability services, in particular, should respect that each person with a disability has the right to enjoy sexual experiences, and have their expressions of sexuality seen as being in the context of normal behaviour.
