Community Services & Resources:
Transport

Transport is a major problem for people whose disability prevents them from being able to drive a motor vehicle. Melbourne’s trams are not physically accessible to wheelchair users and others with mobility problems and few buses are physically accessible.

The Public Transport system is a challenge for many disabled people often resulting in them being trapped in their homes, which inevitably makes the job of parenting all the more difficult.

"Specifically, there is not enough public transport within the Western Region to access services or leaving the area so that parents can (with their children) use other services."(Comment from parent with a disability).

This is especially true in certain parts of the Western Region where access to frequent, reliable Public Transport is not a possibility because of low/no access to these Services.

Compounding the overall problem during the last decade we have seen the erosion of Community Transport Programs which traditionally moved the frail and disabled in manner convenient and affordable for the user.

The Services listed in the database are providers of Public or Community Transport within the Western or Services which Support people seeking Transport.
