Issues Faced by Parents with a Disability
Attendant care
Some parents with high support needs will require ongoing attendant care support. We believe that parents should be funded for the attendant care hours they need for parenting in addition to their own personal needs. At present parents find they have to sacrifice their own needs because there is no entitlement to support for attendant care for their children. The inadequate funding for attendant care or for alternative forms of support can create the need for young children to care for their parents. This is not satisfactory because the caring responsibility can rob the child of their own childhood.
