Hi all, just a short note to let you know that Joc was allowed outside the hospital for lunch today!!

LFT numbers have improved greatly over the last few days, with one set even dropping into the Normal range, and since the staff were getting fed up with me/us poring over test results and asking too many questions they told us to stop worrying and just go out for the day and enjoy ourselves.

The weather was beautiful, though J is not allowed out in the sun for more than five minutes - yes folks, we live in Australia :( - so we went to a friend's for a lunch far removed from hospital food, and an environment without the nasty colds and viruses that might be in a more public place. We shall have to be careful like that for about three months, as the OKT3 really knocks out the immune system.

This was the first time J had been out into the real world since the new liver, and it felt just GREAT to be able to appreciate a sunny Spring day without the fatigue and malaise of three weeks ago. Then just to stop us getting too cocky, the car broke down and J had to get a ride back to hospital while I got it towed home.

Joc says she can look after herself so I should just stay at home and fix the car. The only bad side effects she suffered from the OKT3 were (very nasty) nightmares, so she has had her injection time moved forward to 5 pm which appears to allow the worst of this effect to subside by bedtime. Otherwise she seems to be able take anything they can hit her with :)

So we are permitting ourselves cautious optimism once again, and looking forward to J being home in less than a week.

Love, JH.
