Day 5, outside in the sun :) Nothing is too much trouble for Joc's carers, they put her in a wheelchair and took the whole contraption 8 stories down to a sunny courtyard so she could feel the sun on her face and get a breath of fresh air.
This was made a little easier by J having shed a further two pumps and
drains since yesterday. Had there not been a small complication she might
have shed the others too.
The liver function chemistry indicates a problem with bile drainage from the liver, and attempts to inject a radio-opaque dye through the T-tube to investigate the flow suggest there is a kink in the tube, which is only a couple of millimeters in diameter.
Today (Saturday) she will undergo a procedure to attempt to fix the problem. It has a fancy name, which as far as I can ascertain translates to 'poke a wire up it and hope it straightens out'.
(Sunday.) J called last night to say that the process was, mechanically at least, a success. Obviously to straighten a kink in a tube it needs to be pulled a little straighter, and as there is no such thing as an X-ray movie, this involved time-lapse photography with much intermediate photo-developing.
Like the man said, he didn't want to end up with the tube in his hand, looking foolish. Dye injection confirmed a blockage of some kind, I am not sure if it was fixed on the spot because our conversation was interrupted by a call to Joc from England.
In any case, it is not regarded as a major setback.
Love, JH
