LITERACY LESSON 4.

Each of the 26 letters has one main sound

but it helps to know that c ..g ..and ..y can each have different sounds

 

Two letters can spell one sound
(digrafs)

So now we can sing

Letters match sounds in words
most of the time, but not always,
as you will see.

There are around 42 English speech sounds
but only 26 letters to spell them.

So 2 letters together may make one sound, as in TH-I-NG.
