Please read details about Orion Bushwalking

Our pages will continue to be developed and improved to give both members and visitors a worthwhile experience. You will be able to understand what we are about and what are our intentions for the future.

You will be able to download valuable information about areas we will be visiting.
You might even wish to contribute to some of our forthcoming events and projects. Watch this space and see how we grow.
We have full intentions to work with other Clubs in the pursuit of common interests and goals.

MISSION

Our mission is to provide a venue through which members can enjoy the outdoors by assisting each other in the achievement of their collective goals.

VALUES

Members value the following factors in Club activities and each other:

common sense.
courtesy to fellow members and guests.
appreciation of, and commitment to, safety in the bush and in driving to & from destinations.
the principle of - Tread Lightly - for environmentally sound activities
personal skills development

MODUS OPERANDI

The purpose of the Club is to go bush. So the less time spent having meetings the better.

As we are a very small group you only need a couple of trips to get to know most of us. We do fit in two social activities per year that we can also mix with business. The following will give you an idea of how we operate:

only one meeting per year, the Annual General Meeting.
most ventures are on a cost sharing basis.
although we do some day walks we mainly concentrate on weekends away with at least one extended adventure each year.
we can do any activity that is covered by the VICWALK Insurances, all it needs is at least three members.
we are not averse to commercially guided activities.
we generally use Four Wheel Drive vehicles to access hard to get to places for our walkers.
we volunteer for outdoor community projects with other Clubs.

ACHIEVEMENTS

We have walked half of the Australian Alps Walking Track.
We have assisted police in searches and have one member always ready.
Two of our members are BMLC qualified.
We conducted a Recreational Expedition which featured in WILD Magazine No. 69 Winter 1998.
We have assisted in building walking tracks in the Otway Ranges.
We have walked the whole of the Croajingolong Wilderness Coast including the Nadgee Nature Reserve into NSW. We have done all the trails in the Little Desert of Victoria. The Bogong High Plains are like home; though some members there have been touched by lightning.

We have plans to do much more.

THE FUTURE

Although the Club has been together for well over a decade it is the future we are looking forward to.

The advent of electronic communication has enabled us to keep in touch quickly by emails, landline & mobile phones. This is the main reason for only one official meeting per year. This web site, courtesy of VICNET, will enable us to help others with information and resources.

We are developing a special activity called a Tiger Task, and it will be very different to a Tiger Walk. This basically means a bushwalk will never be just an ordinary bushwalk. There will be clear goals for each Tiger Task, and each activity will be organised as a recreational expedition of up to a fortnight in length. Your annual holidays will never be dull again. Each member will be part of a team with specialist tasks to perform. The results of each Task will be published on this site, and you will be able to download useful information resulting from our efforts.

Visit this site every now and then. There will be details about the true nature of our proposed Tasks, especially when you see a working example.

YOU WANT TO CONTACT US?

That is O.k. but you must understand that you need to come out on at least one weekend with us before we can consider you for membership. You must be happy with us, and we with you. A calendar of activities will be posted when this site is fully functional.
