WHAT
IS ORAL HISTORY?
Oral
history is a record of information gathered in oral form as the result of a planned interview. It is a means of finding out
about the past by asking questions of people who have lived through a
period, an event, or an experience of interest. The Oral History
Association of Australia provides a friendly and informative forum for
people interested in all aspects of the important and exciting technique
of oral history. |

| The Oral History Association of Australia was formed in 1978 and has
branches in each state. The Victorian Branch was formed in 1982. The
objectives of the OHAA are - |

The Victorian Branch of the OHAA publishes a state newsletter, Rewind,
and holds meetings three times a year featuring guest speakers or panel
discussions. Annual events may also include oral history workshops and
work-in-progress seminars. |

| State and regional OHAA conferences are held from time to time, and a
National Conference is held every second year. These conferences provide
opportunities for the discussion of oral history projects, methods and
issues. |
