Here are just a couple of the many excellent articles that Olympic Village News published in 1997 when it was still Fech News.
PHAR LAPThe Thursday reading and writing class went to the Museum in the City. This is probably the last time they will see it because it’s closing in June. The new museum will be at the old Exhibition Building, but it is opening in the year 2000. Phar Lap the very great racehorse is still at the Museum. David reckons that it would be grouse to put Phar Lap in the Crown Casino, because that’s where he belongs. He was made of money that horse and still is. Harold agrees with David. Donna thinks it is a terrible idea because if he’s in the Casino, kids can’t go and see him and he is for the kids as much as for the adults. Amanda agrees with Donna. Four and Twenty because that’s where the rest of him went. According to Walter, that’s where all great racehorses go. Andrew doesn’t care where he goes as long as it is somewhere where everybody can see it. Phar Lap was a great racing horse. Jamie doesn’t care where he goes! As he is dead, stuffed and is not worth anything. But people used to win a lot of money on him. He was the greatest horse in the world.
FRIENDSHIPBy Maria Kljuce Friends are the most important person someone could ever have. Someone you could depend on when you need advise, a shoulder to cry on, support and just company. Friends are always important to have around for life. Whereas commitments such as a boyfriend or husband could turn around and disappear, which leaves you lonely and nowhere. But that doesn’t have to lead that way, you could remain friends, with mutual feelings. Friends could also be your family such as your mother, brother, sister, relatives, in-laws, neighbors or even your pet dog or cat.
